An archaeologist claimed in an interview published in late June that he has identified the ancient Biblical site where Sodom once stood.
Trinity Southwest University’s Dean of Archaeology Steven Collins told host of the Rosenberg Report, Joel C. Rosenberg, that he and his team believe the Tell el-Hammam site in Jordan appears to have many of the markers of Sodom. The site is reportedly scattered with Bronze-age remains that appear to have been melted in a “flash heat” situation, matching the Biblical account of how Sodom burned to the ground.
“As soon as we get a few centimeters into that [Bronze Age] matrix, this piece of pottery, the shoulder of a storage jar, is facing up at us. And it looks like it’s glazed,” Collins told Rosenberg. Another member of Collins’ team remarked that the scars looked similar to those witnessed at the Trinity nuclear test site in New Mexico where the first atomic bomb was detonated.
Previous reports on the site suggest that the site was decimated by a meteor-impact some 4,000-years-ago. This cataclysm has yet to be confirmed, but evidence shows a “charcoal-rich destruction layer” and a series of melted objects, according to a study published in Nature.
The study suggested that the site was “wiped out in the blink of an eye,” Collins noted.
He went on to claim that “there are at least 25 known pieces of geography [in Scripture] that you can triangulate between to take you to the city of Sodom.” For example, Genesis 13:10 states that when Lot was at Bethel and Ai, he traveled eastwards. Tall el-Hammam is east of Bethel and Ai.

So there are higher layers than the Bronze Age one. Which means this site was inhabited after the destruction of the Bronze Age site. Which means it’s not Soddom.

What’s funny is you can find old maps of the Holy Land, probably from the 18th and 19th century, that show the 5 cities of the plain marked under the Dead Sea. So it can’t have been a totally new theory.
I’ve never been to Israel or Jordan, but I always imagined that area (where Sodom was) to be bleak and desolate, not with lots of greenery.
I suspect at times, that music makers and script writers lurk at FreeRepublic, in order to borrow from FR creations (most of which, are the result of fumbling keyboards or eyeglasses).

On youtube, there are videos made of the place where the sulphur balls impacted Sodom and Gomorrah. Ron Wyatt documented much of Biblical events. But since he was a SDA, he is a heathen.
Back in the 1950s a US preacher cultivated good relations with the King of Jordan and did a bunch of dives in the Dead Sea, then wrote a long rambling (self-published I think) book about his search for the cities. Somewhere around here I’ve got a paperback of it from back then.
Yeah, God wouldn’t let heathens find something like that, for sure.

I usually comment before reading, but thanks for the correction. Ron Wyatt is the real deal. I am not a SDA, but I damn sure believe Christians are lost. The Torah is forever, and I am not talking about blood sacrifices, and washing hands. The High Holy days, Passover, Sabbath and keeping all 10 of the things on the Stone tablets. Keep it Holy. Righteous is synonymous with following the Torah (Law). Purposely ignoring them because you are baptized and “saved” is a mistake.
