The two seasons' appear to have opposing symptoms, though both result in poor moods and reduced pleasure, according to the Washington Post.
Whereas winter depressives may tend to oversleep, overeat and feel sluggish summer depressives may feel insomnia and have a lesser appetite.
Researchers also note that summer depressives tend to be more agitated, rather than the lethargy shown in winter depressives.
The disturbing truth to the higher levels of suicide may be in energy levels, according to Rosenthal, who is publishing a book on the disorder.
Those who feel suicidal during the winter may not have the energy to actually commit suicide, whereas the agitation of summer depression may convince people to harm themselves.
Summer depressives may blame the weather, including even high pollen counts, for their agitation.
Suicide rates tend to be higher in the summer months, according to researchers Heat, pollen and humidity are cited as triggers for summer depression Researchers recommend cooling strategies and therapy By FOR DAILYMAIL.COM
While seasonal affective disorder is often cited as a problem for many during the winter months, researchers have found that suicides and mental health problems peak during summertime.
Researchers are saying that the summer version of SAD needs more research put into it, as it has gone under the radar compared to its winter counterpart.
'It certainly deserves more study, certainly deserves more concern,' Norman Rosenthal, the psychiatrist who first described seasonal affective disorder, has said.
In fact, suicides are at peak from the summer months until October, both recently and historically.
In 2020 and 2021, suicides in America peaked from May until October, dipping for the colder months, according to the CDC.
In historical research, suicides have peaked over the summer months as well.

Summer is a bummer
And the Beach Boys suck
Taking out my Smith and Wesson
Cause I done run out of luck
I don’t ever remember myself or anyone else being depressed in summer.
I like winter better than summer. Can’t stand the heat, humidity, and allergies. Let it be autumn year-round and I would be fine.
Summer seasonal affective disorder --
It's not just $AD, it's super $$AD.
It’s not the heat. It’s who’s invading the WH
I can see the Covid era (2020-2022) having odd numbers, but I don’t see any worldwide statistical displays that show such a trend.
If you look at worldwide trends....the countries with the least suicides...are Caribbean Islands mostly. Jordan and Syria even make it into the least ten with the lowest numbers.
Perhaps the numbers of “summer suicides” are being greatly augmented by the swarms of youth who have been convinced of the probability they are afflicted with gender dysphoria.
Or even more so by those who have undergone “transition” and are now sadly regretting their impetuous decision.

“Goodbye to you, my trusted friend
We’ve known each other since we were nine or ten
Together we’ve climbed hills and trees
Learned of love and ABCs
Skinned our hearts and skinned our knees
Goodbye my friend, it’s hard to die
When all the birds are singing in the sky
Now that the spring is in the air
Pretty girls are everywhere
Think of me and I’ll be there
We had joy, we had fun
We had seasons in the sun
But the hills that we climbed
Were just seasons out of time”
the climate mob want to focus on suicide, because they have been called out for years when they try to claim hot weather is a big killer:
2010: WattsUpWithThat: Winter kills: Excess Deaths in the Winter Months
108,500 Deaths in the US in 2008; 36,700 in England and Wales Last Winter; 5,600 in Canada (2006); 7,000 in Australia (1997-2006 Average); Thousands in Other Developed Countries

Since extreme cold has gripped much of the Northern Hemisphere, some newspapers have been keeping a tally of the number of deaths obviously caused by extreme cold (e.g., freezing). But the BBC’s Health Correspondent, Clare Murphy, in a very timely and, in my opinion, excellent article, How cold turns up the heat on health, reminds us that many more deaths occur from chronic conditions that are exacerbated by cold weather. She also notes that, “For every degree the temperature drops below 18C, deaths in the UK go up by nearly 1.5%.”
Following is a compilation of excess deaths during the winter months (compared to what occurs on average during the rest of the year) in a number of developed countries in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

Liberals and trans affected most.
let’s face it, everybody is depressed all the time. If your meds don’t work, you get more meds, and a paper plate on a stick to disguise your sadness.
Heat? Not up here in the northeast. Rain, rain, rain, rain.
14 inches last month and almost 2 inches in the last 5 days. I’m molding.
Give me some pre-pandemic lockdown stats, and then we will be comparing apples to apples.
The lefties gaslight the kids into thinking there is globull warming and put fear into them about it. I know this at a professional level.
Summertime is here. Time for “peaceful, non-violent BLM riots, attacks on Walmart and cop killings”. Then the San Fernasco taxpayers can start handing out checks for five million to all Africans.
Years ago I read it was the short hours of winter sunlight that was the cause of winter suicides.
Now the story has changed again!
Seasonal Affective Disorder has a summer and a winter version. I have been blessed with both and have had them for years.
My ability to sleep in June is almost non-existent. I have been able to deliver a major project early or on time for 10 consecutive years thanks to this.
Lack of sleep leads to all sorts of things, so it doesn’t surprise me that more serious issues happen to other people. I work on my sleep hygiene which helps, but I still get overstimulated with the continuous sun.
Once the days start shortening and it gets a little cooler I will feel much better.
