Just wait for the new & improved electric bill. What about that plan to take out loans and never pay them back? Let's go Brandon.

Does anyone know of a pickup truck — small or full-sized — for under $30,000 new? Does such a thing even exist? I remember when you could get a basic small no-frills Japanese truck for a very reasonable price. Now they all seem to have backseats, backup cameras, GPS computers, etc.

Last November I bought new 2022 Chevy Trax AWD for 26k and change, fully loaded. And I like driving this SUV wannabe.

Price gouging, even though manufacturing costs have gone up. In before the FReepers who will say businesses have a perfect right to make a profit.

I’ve never purchased a used car in my life. My last 3 purchases were new cars, and besides that it’s been family hand-me-downs.

But I might have to seriously consider the “preowned” market next time around, e.g., ex-rental cars, lease returns, etc. Auto prices have suddenly become absurd. A $47k average for “new” is ridiculous.

Absolute price gouging and price fixing... And any fool that tries to say anything different owns stock or has vested interest.

Fuel costs nation wide are still $2 a gallon under the Obama years, but yet... Everything is 50% to 100% more? There is absolutely no way except for price gouging. I see it in my own industry and hate the crooked greed without justification for it...

Everyone has jumped on the price gouging/fixing wagon...

And in mass everyone is stupid enough to keep paying it...

Stop... Just say No and the prices will come down.

And, I just got an email from my car insurance company that my new rate is 25% higher than last renewal. Bidenomics; what a great idea!

No real upsides now to new cars.

Too much breaks too quickly and are too expensive to fix.

it’s the value of the money, stupid

According to Edmunds, average monthly payments reached a record-breaking $733 in the second quarter of this year.

My God, that is just nuts.

I have never bought a new car, even when I could have more than afforded to buy a nice one. But I always liked old rides in good shape and that's what I've driven through the years.

Now I live in Italy where I drive a 26 year old Fiat Cinquecento which costs very, very little to keep running well. Parts are dirt cheap, I do my own work and this little box gets 40-50mpg, which is a big deal in a place where gas is $7-8 per gallon. Is it glamorous or sexy? No. Is it a boxy looking plain jane? Yes. Does it get me from A to B in relative comfort? Yes. Can I stuff it full of firewood and throw a few sheets of drywall on the roof? Yep. Job done.

I do miss my gorgeous, restored 1972 Chevy long bed sometimes. . .

I will hold onto my 1997 Toyota Corolla. As long as I can find parts for it I’m good.

The Price is Right is on TV during my cardiac rehab sessions and they often have a new car as a prize. No matter how small, very few are under $20,000.

Just watched “American Graffiti” today. The oddest thing about the film is a world where teenagers actually owned cars.

Car buying the last couple of years has been a royal pain. I nursed a 2006 Nissan Frontier with creeping multiple organ failure since 2020 (aided by not driving much during NM’s covid over reaction) and I was well into the paranoid phase when I went to check a 2013 Tacoma at a local lot I’d done business with before. Clean, one owner, lots of records, new Michelins (a typical old guy car) with 100K on it. The Nissan almost died on the way there, so I was pretty much committed. It was only on their website for 12 hours when I bought it and they were getting calls about it while I did the paperwork. It may have been a bit over book, but he gave me a decent trade on the Nissan. Sometimes the best deal is just being able to get the thing. I now have a 300K capable truck.
