“Overall, the CEO comes across as the kind of idiot who gets people who believe in him killed.”
And apparently his enormous hubris took him too.

“followed by big lawsuit”
Who are they gonna sue? It’s a startup that has made zero profit, and the CEO and one of their backers is on the bottom of the ocean.

"the sub probably is stuck in the wreckage of the Titanic"Yeah, stuck in the wreckage of the Titanic, which the designers ironically, also didn't think needed too much safety equipment.

I thought all vessels had to be certified by the coastguard or government they are registered with.
I'm guessing that there are some ticketholders that should have asked that very question...

They were still in contact for 1 hour and 40 some minutes of the descent though.

The Titanic’s sunken carcass is a tribute to (and a stark reminder and rebuke of) man’s arrogance. And since arrogant men never seem to learn from their mistakes, much less admit them, it’s also a tribute to man’s stupidity.

“I wonder why the vessel wasn’t tethered by a cable to the support ship.”
Well, like the story says “we don’t have a 13,000 foot cable”.
I imagine they could have one made, but they were set on building an independent submersible, not a diving bell. And maybe the cable would have cost more than the vessel they actually built.
To: Ahithophel
That's the buried lead, so to speak: Even if rescuers locate Titan in next 5 minutes, they have no means of hoisting Titan to the surface;
Just a friendly wave and a sign that says, "Howdy! Just letting you know we're thinking of you."

The Lost Titanic Sub Didn’t Even Have a Basic Safety BeaconThat's because radio signals cannot propagate any significant distance through water.

Depends on the thickness. If we could make it one atom thick, it would fit in your pocket.

Check out the link in Post #28. The expert in that video seems to have no problem with using a video game controller for navigation. It’s the use of a wireless controller on a vessel operating thousands of feet below the surface that he considers reckless and irresponsible. Too many things can go wrong with it even under benign circumstances in an office or bedroom — dead batteries, syncing problems with the other hardware, interruptions of the signal, interference from other on-board systems, etc.

My guess is that a breach in the hull caused it to collapse due to the immense water pressure......

I don’t know but trans Atlantic cables go back to 1850’s and there are hundreds of them world wide now. Should of been a feature of this submersible tomb.

“Has anyone watched their kids play video games? There are more than enough switches and buttons to control a small sub’s attitude, speed, and direction.”
Have you ever played video games yourselves on one of those controllers?
They aren’t exactly built for quality. Drop them on the floor and they might completely cease to function. Not exactly the type of thing I would risk my life on.

A simple tether line would have at least been something to get the sub back up......................
