America's first black president took aim at black Republican senator Tim Scott for saying his party was 'doing a fabulous job of making progress.'
Scott launched his run for president last month on an optimistic platform and has put his own story of struggle at the center of his campaign, with a philosophy that suggests everyone can succeed if they want to.
But former President Barack Obama said in a podcast released on Thursday that it was time for the Republican Party to get real about how systemic racism shaped the nation's history.
'And so, if a Republican who may even be sincere in saying "I want us all to live together" doesn't have a plan for how do we address crippling generational poverty that is a consequence of hundreds of years of racism in this society and we need to do something about that ...' Obama told the Axe Files, hosted by his former adviser David Axelrod.
'If somebody is not proposing, both acknowledging and proposing elements that say, "No, we can't just ignore all that and pretend as if everything's equal and fair. We actually have to walk the walk and not just talk the talk."
'If they're not doing that, then I think people are rightly skeptical.'
Scott responded to his comments late on Thursday, but steered clear of attacking Obama by name.
'Let us not forget we are a land of opportunity, not a land of oppression. Democrats deny our progress to protect their power,' he said.
'The Left wants you to believe faith in America is a fraud and progress in our nation is a myth. The truth of my life disproves the lies of the radical Left.'

Now we shall see if Tim Scott has the grit and intellectual depth to counter such attacks on him and the GOP. So far, he has floated along on his biography and the novelty of being the only fully Black Senator and a conservative Republican at that. Obama’s challenge to Scott is just an opening salvo, with far more to come.
An ‘honest accounting’ of U.S. history clearly shows that the Democrats are the party of slavery, the KKK and Jim Crow laws. I could throw in lynching as well.
Republican Party was started to combat the most racist institution that ever walked the Earth, which was the Democrat Party.
Barry O forgets that it was a white man who played a major role in ending slavery...
Also I believe his family history, and I may be wrong Kammy’s show that blacks are immunce from their historical impact on their race.
Of course the MSM won’t point any of this out.
Says the half black white multi-millionaire
For Democrats, the demand for racism has far outstripped the supply. Thus, it needs to be manufactured.
So good ole boy O wants to tell the history of those who died fighting in a war to free and help people like him
Mr Obama really lowered the bar with how he talked during his presidency. He opened up cans of worms and destroyed the peace. Tim Scott seems like a wonderful man and Obama and his ilk don’t like “good” positive leaning people because they themselves are mean spirited. More than that I believe it’s strife between the sheep and the goats.
Stupid, destructive Obama. His obsession with race has caused deteriorating race relations. And his idea of “making progress” means progress in the destruction of our Republic.
Poverty caused by racism? A plan for it? You Gotta be kidding me how many more trillions must we throw at it attempting to solve problem rooted in genetics
Good news for Obama—the Halfrican only owes white people half of the reparations payment to white people for blacks destroying US cities.
DING! DING! DING! We have a winner!
No amount of money, time, or caring will “fix” someone who does not want to be fixed!
Besides, can Obama explain the generational poverty of whites in America? I mean, after all, there are more whites on poverty programs than blacks...so, what is to be the solution for WHITE generational poverty?!? If black “generational poverty” was caused by “institutional racism” then what caused all the WHITE “generational poverty”?!? Or is that simply something Odumbo is willing to ignore?!?
People who are stuck in “generational poverty” are victims of THEIR PARENTS; they are NOT victims of “the system” or “institutional racism”. Otherwise, ever (or nearly every) white family on welfare programs would be lifted out of poverty (especially with their “white privilege” card to help them)!!
That’s the pot calling the kettle black.
Obama to Tim Scott: “Hey, black boy! You are just a darkie that has escaped our plantation! Get back or our massa will beat you! Dred Scott was decided correctly and we can get you back using that! You ain’t nothin’ but a nigga anyway. It’s who we are!”
This from a black guy living on Martha’s Vineyard with a home in Hawaii and another home in Washington DC.
Give me a break and GET LOST.
America’s first black president
America’s first HALF black president.
FTFY.
How about demands ‘honest accounting’ of US history within the democrat party of how much poverty they have caused and keeping them there with the welfare tool and keep baiting them with free things to stay there.
Barack Obama isn’t the slick talker he thinks he is if you can’t dazzle them with brilliance baffle them with bullshit.
From which of those palatial pads did he make these remarks? How’d he get all that money? Perhaps Joe Biden knows.
Poverty in Appalachia
The black man keepin the black man down.
