Pharmacists are urgently calling for the Government to approve controversial 'horse de-wormer' drug ivermectin to treat a mite infection of the skin amid reports of rising cases and widespread treatment shortages.
The highly contagious condition, scabies, causes intense itching, a raised rash and is easily spread in close contact with others.
There has been a spike in outbreaks over the past year, particularly among the elderly in care homes and young adults at university. Experts now warn some cases are becoming harder to treat.
High Street chemists say that the main drugs used for the skin condition – creams which can be bought over-the-counter called permethrin and malathion – are regularly out of stock.
Experts believe ivermectin – an anti-parasitic drug – could be a solution. It is used in veterinary medicine – which is why it is commonly referred to as a horse de-wormer – and is routinely given to children and adults in mainland Europe and beyond to treat or prevent parasitic infections.
The drug became infamous during the Covid pandemic due to claims by fringe medics that it might be a suitable treatment, and even a vaccination alternative, despite a lack of credible evidence.
However, only one product containing ivermectin – a cream for skin condition rosacea, called Soolantra – is currently licensed for use in the UK.
Dr Leyla Hannbeck, chief executive of the Association of Independent Multiple Pharmacies, said: 'Scabies medicines have been on and off the shortages list for some time, and we know that ivermectin is a safe and effective treatment. But pharmacists can't give it out. A dermatologist can prescribe it 'off-label', but a referral takes up huge amounts of time and resources.
'Scabies is a worrying and stressful condition for patients because of the distressing symptoms.'

Oh the nursing homes where 100% of patients were given the jab, multiple times.
Ok, got it
Scabies cases (un-reportedly) are coming across the open southern border.
People are gonna have a hard time swallowing those horse pills.
“The drug became infamous during the Covid pandemic due to claims by fringe medics that it might be a suitable treatment, and even a vaccination alternative, despite a lack of credible evidence.”
This is when I stopped reading. This writer is full of bias and crap... would be willing to bet he/she has had covid multiple times...
Darn sure wear a mask in a scabbies pandemic.
Who would want those little boogers up your nose?
It never was a controversial drug until the left made it one, just like they do with everything they don’t like.
Label it controversial and people will think it is.
“It is used in veterinary medicine...What a misleading line, and this was repeated by the MSM all through the last 3 years.”
Correct, and I guess they don’t consider the Hundreds of Millions of users in Africa against River Blindness (who, by the way, also had very low Covid rates) to be ‘human’, or they might have mentioned it.
Off to Tractor Supply!
Have psoriasis.
Know a dude that takes it for osteoarthritis, so there is something there....
Carrots? You’re eating CARROTS???? Idiot, don’t you know horses eat carrots? You sick idiot. Yer gonna die, yer gonna die!
It cured my case of covid, and then went on to cure my severe GERD, got rid of a few warts, my gnarly toenail fungus AND lower my blood pressure so much that I’ve been able to reduce my heart med dose by 3/4. (I take it prophlyactically, twice a week, using Dr Z’s Protocol.)
Research also shows that IVM treats/cures Lyme disease, M.S., cancer, Parkinson’s and a host of other diseases/conditions. (Use Presearch.com as your search engine; it doesn’t seem to censor info like the others.)
Here’s a list of where to buy IVM, pill form, no Rx required. A link to the list of various use/dosing protocols is included in the list.:

The author clearly does not have the intelligence to write on this subject. Where is the Editor?
Ivermectin is prescribed all over the world. Straight up propaganda.
I have two pups that take Metoclopramide for acid reflux as needed. It was designed for humans to combat nausea from chemo treatments and surgery. It has worked wonders on their reflux.
Vets used it regularly for reflux but when the more expensive meds came out, Vets mostly stopped using the cheaper tested Metoclopramide.
“…It is used in veterinary medicine – which is why it is commonly referred to as a horse de-wormer…”
You’d think it would be embarrassing to display your ignorance for the world to see. No mention of “River blindness.” The CDC says “The treatment of choice for onchocerciasis is ivermectin, which has been shown to reduce the occurrence of blindness and to reduce the occurrence and severity of skin symptoms.”
I have eczema and used human ivermectin for covid. It worked great and cleared my skin for months.
Good luck trying to get it. My doc gave up trying and sent me to a dermatologist. Have to jump through hoops about it because it’s a political drug.
The horse paste can be used topically on the little buggers.
It is NOT a horse de-wormer. It is a human anti parasite drug that has been used by hundreds of millions of people for almost a half a century.
Oh NOW it’s ok to approve this!!!
NO, NO, NO, no horse drug…. Must come up with a mRNA drug which will “heal everyone and raise the dead” but not really live up to its claims…
I was thinking about making my own cold pressed sunflower oil. The breed of seed needed is only sold in nurseries to feed birds and chickens. I guess I shouldn’t now…..

Amazing story of how ivermectin was discovered.
Truly a miracle drug. Has such incredibly broad spectrum antimicrobial activity. Apparently it is effective against endoparasites, ectoparasites (like scabies), certain bacteria, certain viruses, certain cancers, and is an anti-inflammatory agent.
The campaign to label it 'horsepaste' and otherwise ridicule its use is a classic commie/CIA psyops.
The value of a sacrosanct doctor-patient relationship, and a free physician population able to use drugs off-label, is that unknown and unimagined uses of existing drugs very rapidly come to the fore, as happened in the Covid epidemic.
