Bud Light sales decline ’accelerating’ -- parent company shares fell nearly another 5% in worst day yet on Wall Street

There was a widespread expectation that the outrage over Bud Light’s pushing of transgender icon Dylan Mulvaney would fade over time, as often happens with boycotts. But not this time. Nielsen, which tracks sales scanner data released new data Tuesday showing the nightmare for Bud Light and its parent AB InBev is deepening. Josh Schafer writes at Yahoo Finance:

Bud Light sales declines are accelerating, and shares of parent company Anheuser-Busch InBev (BUD) are falling alongside them.

New data from Nielsen revealed Bud Light sales declined 24.3% year-over-year in the week ending May 20 while Budweiser sales were down 20.4% during the same period. Last week sales were down 21.6% and 17.6% respectively. Driven by backlash from an advertising campaign with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, Bud Light sales have now declined for six weeks, per Nielsen.

Shares of AbInBev fell nearly 5% on Tuesday, the worst intraday action on the stock since Mulvaney's post on April 1. Since the day of the post, ABInBev shares have fallen roughly 18%.

Even worse for the company, other brands in its portfolio are also being hit, as Janet Freund writes for Bloomberg in a notice to subscribers that is not online:

The broader InBev beer portfolio also continues to see weakness, while Molson Coors’ Coors Light beer continues to see market share gains accelerate, he says

My guess is that ordering or drinking in public a Bud Light, or even a Budweiser or other identifiable sister brand, subjects a person to mockery. So, even those who are indifferent to the transgender propaganda tidal wave are being influenced to stay away from the brand.

while Molson Coors’ Coors Light beer continues to see market share gains accelerate didn't coors go off the deep end too?

Yuengling is an excellent alternative.

The oldest brewery in the United States, and they have rejected WOKE-ism.

Oh yeah. It’s also darn good beer.

Bud made mistakes, but Target is definitely all WOKE.
I support Target boycott 100%.

Once you seek the perv approval, you are STUCK.

These companies are now like the convicted sex offender out of the slammer. They have to register everywhere & the community knows who they are. The stigma never goes away.

She was unceremoniously removed.

A friend of ours is in sales for a local beer distributor. I feel bad for him and the other 200 people who work for the company. They had nothing to do with this and they’re getting hammered.

The entire senior leadership or AB should be summarily fired along with anyone who has a degree in Marketing.

Stock value can fluctuate and a company has tools to manipulate it but lost sales are lost sales. Good riddance to the purveyors of Troon Juice.

Lunch? I was thinking that breakfast beer of the homeless champions won’t be Bud Light so much anymore.

We’ll have to disagree. They could have issued a real apology EARLY for offending customers who were offended. If done carefully they could have pulled it off without the degree backlash you suggest. It’s almost certainly too late now.

Yep.

In fact that is the deal for any customer.

People think it is brand loyalty when it is actually inertia.

Once a customer leaves he ain't coming back.

And more and more people are realizing that it is not just Bud but the entire InBev conglomerate that they should be targeting. And so they are.

If that happens and InBev takes a major long term hit they might begin to think twice about what they are pushing.

Or not.

“The reaper can also take out The LA Dodgers”

Don’t forget the Angels, they invited those freak “Nuns” to Anaheim Stadium when the Dodgers briefly backed down with their invite. As far as I know the freaks will make appearances at both parks.

Peer pressure.

Who wants to be associated with a male cross-dresser with surgeries to make him look like Audrey Hepburn?

Bud Light has become a mainstream joke.
Looking back at Coors Zima beer catastrophe, once widespread public opinions are set, it is next to impossible to salvage sales.

In Coors case, Zima became seen as a woman’s drink. Coors was marketing to men and spent a lot of money trying to counter that trend. It failed.

I doubt you can walk into most bars and order a Bud Light without an offhand comment occurring. Bud Light has a reputation now.

So much for the notion that 56 was a sustainable floor. Now some analysts are talking 50. When solid Memorial Day weekend sales numbers come it, even that might be optimistic.
