Famous Artist Causes A Stir With Her Rendition Of The National Anthem
Daily Caller ^ | May 29, 2023 4:24 PM ET | LEENA NASIR - ENTERTAINMENT REPORTER

Famous singer Jewel sang the national anthem at the Indy 500 on Sunday, and the internet is roaring louder than the engines.

Jewel immediately created a divided audience with her rendition of the anthem, with fans either touting the artist for nailing it with such a gutsy performance, or wailing at her for butchering an anthem she had no business changing. The majority are upset at the star for slowing down the song, rearranging the lyrics and adding a soulful spin.

SynergyBee @SynergyBeeMe · Follow I don't care what anyone says, This was a PERFECT way for Jewel to sing our National Anthem, With RESPECT! Not just blasting through it carelessly, but actually giving time for REAL REFLECTION on WHY WE HAVE THE FREEDOMS we do. THANK YOU to THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR ALL To their call

VIDEO AT LINK..............

The live crowd of car enthusiasts gathered in Indianapolis to kick off the Indy 500 festivities and looked visibly stunned when Jewel rearranged the majority of the song. Passionate Americans displayed facial expressions depicting pure confusion as they quickly realized they couldn’t sing along because nothing about the Star Spangled Banner sounded familiar.

The famous singer strummed the guitar and crafted her own tempo for the anthem, with many immediately taking to social media with outrage, calling her performance a fail that compared to Roseanne Barr’s butchering of the anthem in 1990. Jewel was widely criticized for not following the traditional structure of the country’s song, and adding her own, country twist to it. The line was immediately drawn between fans who hated the changes and those who loved them and found Jewel’s rendition refreshing. The one thing both sides can agree on – is that it’s today’s hottest topic, and everyone’s talking.

I also was in the 101st but that does not mean I can butcher the anthem.

I watched the video and feel that she did a beautiful version of the song, even though it was somewhat slower than it is usually sung. She has a beautiful voice.

The National Anthem represents our Nation's history, traditions, and beliefs. It should be the one thing that unites us and is constant. It should be sung in the same respectful manner each time. It's not meant to be entertaining and it's certainly not about the singer and how they feel the Anthem should be performed.

Just my humble opinion as a retired Military service member.

This is truly making a mountain out of a mole hill

/\

Ok.

I repent for calling it evil.

Listening to it , she may have not meant to be “ evil” ,

but to leave out a couple, 2, words

thus breaking the unifying spell and effect ,

was a bad idea and it did alienate part of us.

But hey, im used to being accused of makeing mountains out of mole hills.

Like in 9th grade when I confronted my teacher in front of my English class over the “ telephone” game that assaulted the concept of absolute truth, that poisoned the minds of my whole dang class.

Like when I confronted that same teacher and class
over the “ lifeboat” game that installed situational ethics and again poisoned my classmates morality.

Like when I tried to warn my peers over the creeping socialism in our government.

When I tried to warn my college business and finance class over the dangers of a debt based fiat currency installed by the Fed res act.

Or when I warned others that accepting homosexuality would lead to accepting pedosexuality.

Or that letting a Communist country , the ccp, whose goal was to overthrow our government, into the WTO and giving them most favored trade nation status.

Or ignoring scripture and ordaining women and sexually deviants into the clergy.

I could go on and on but you get my drift.

It IS the mole hills, that if not nipped in the bud, become mountains that bury and eventually kill our nation.

So ya, maybe I am a little trigger happy ( a euphemism dhs, FBI ).

Not
Sorry

for making mountains of mole hills.

Just watched it after hearing plenty of criticism since Sunday. Meh, it’s kinda nice in her own way. I’m sure Francis Scott Key didn’t think the song would be sung that way and certainly didn’t expect Whitney Houston to sing her incredible version as well.

Hey, I know! Maybe we can get Kevin McCarthy to send Jewel a strongly worded letter condemning her behavior and expressing the disappointment of a large portion of race fans?....

/\

That’s a good and valid question.

Context.

Jimmie performed music as music in a music venue where the context was entertainment.

Jimmie didn’t sing altered lyrics.

So, no, I didn’t react the same.

( probably my favorite song long guitar solo !!!!! I’m also a musician, bass guitar, ukelele, 6 hole native American cedar flute .)

I may be still a little emotionally unsettled from yesterday. We have a small vet Memorial in my town for the vets that gave their life for our nation. On Memorial day I go there in the morning, and having been part of a honor guard at a USCG burial and trained in the slow solomn salute, and give that salute to each of the conflict sections.

When I got to the afganistan section , I placed the only tattered little flag I had

( cuz I couldn’t the new ones I have stashed for this personal ceremony of mine )

,,, I lost my composure over how that tattered flag was actually reflective of the disrespect to their sacrafice the CIC acted in our withdraw from that area of conflict.

It has always bothered me but it hit full force at that moment and tore a hole in my heart and brought blurred vision.

I guess I’m still a little sore , and this anthem thing triggered my response to this subject today.

I'll have to listen again, because I didn't realize she left out 2 words. I though it was over her delivery.

I beg for your forgiveness, and apologize for just listening for the delivery aspect. Unaware that I needed to be listening to every word. Mainly because I didn't expect her to do skip words. That's what I get for trying to perform 2 tasks at the same time. 👍

I was really expecting some kind of performance like Roseanne Barr did a few years back, and that was where my half-attention was focused upon.

I just realized I wasn’t directing anything at you. So what 2 words did she omit. Most of what I have read is talking about her delivery. I see no mention of two words being omitted. So please indulge my request to provide the 2 missing words if you would.

Okay I just listened to it again, and this time I followed her words to the lyrics, and she said every word as were in the lyrics.

Now, I know of no one that sings the entire poem Francis Scott Key penned, because the entire poem wasn't adopted as the National Anthem of the U.S.A.

But I still apologize if I offended you with my statement that the complaints are making a mountain out of a mole hill. But I still stand by that assessment. We have far bigger problems than that, and I doubt she offered it up with the intent of being disrespectful.

I wasn't crazy about her rendition, but neither was I upset. Because she paid respect to the National Anthem. Music artists always like doing a song in their preferred manner.

Sometimes it's an improvement, often times it is not. Her rendition falls into the 2nd category, as far as I am concerned. But I certainly wouldn't qualify it as evil, because it doesn't even come close to reaching the level of evil. Real evils have descended upon this nation. Ill advised yes, evil no way.

That's just my opinion. Not trying to denigrate your opinion, and in many ways I agree with your opinion.

Her version is fine, but don't sing it when the National Anthem is supposed to be sung as it was adopted, especially on the day where we are honoring those who died for this country, giving the biggest sacrifice anyone can give for their nation.

For that reason alone, I will state that she picked the wrong day for her to deliver her version.

Can we agree on that? 🙂

She didn’t omit them , they were just artisticly minimized to almost non existence to alter the rythem and tempo .

If it had been on her album I probably would have liked the version , this wasn’t really the place to do that imho.

Anything that throws off the “ sing along” I have always disliked.

It was wrong of me to call it evil.

“ I didn’t find it disrespectful. She sang it like she meant what she was singing”

Me neither. I didn’t even realize it was jewel cause I haven’t seen her in forever and her teeth are fixed lol but it looked like a country singer.

When she was finished I thought that was probably one of the *best* national anthems I had ever heard and I’ve heard a lot of them.

Strange how people hear such different things from the same song.

I don’t even particularly like country music but her rendition was just awesome IMO

I live in Montpelier, Vermont. Usually our Main street and State street are lined with crisp, perfect American flags for Memorial Day. Instead every flagpole has an LBG-alphapet/trans flag on it. There must be 100 of these satanic symbols, all paid for by tax dollars. The tax list just went up 100%, BTW.

I am living in Sodom. I am way past being offended. I am looking up, expecting Jesus any minute to rapture his church. As he told us, it will be like the days of Lot (see Matt. 24, Luke 21, and Genesis 19).

The performance of this song by Jewel does not even hit my offense radar. It is the epitome of patriotism by comparison.

Treat them like the Nazi flags that they are: pull them down and rip them up.

Still doesn’t make it the National anthem. That already exists. If you can’t song it don’t take the gig
