Many people are experiencing high inflation FOR THE FIRST TIME and seeing just how substantial of an impact it can have in terms of personal finance. It can be easy to stress over whether there’s enough money to pay your bills as prices continue to go up.
Luckily, the bottom line is that implementing one or more of these ideas can improve your finances and help you save for the future. Pick the ones that you feel are the easiest to implement and start saving money today.
1. Add Saving to Your Budget
2. Ask for a Raise
3. Buy Cheaper Alternatives
4. Cancel Unused Subscriptions
5. Get a Side Gig
6. Invest
7. Pay Down Debt
8. Reduce Energy Bills
9. Set Spending Priorities
10. Use Cash Back Apps
We cook at home almost every meal. Maybe eat out once every couple of months.
I’ve always turned off lights as I left a room. Old habit from when I was growing up.
Pinch pennies everywhere I can. Buy a less expensive brand. Price shop for staples.
We cut back on alcohol so not buying as frequently as we used to.
If you can’t afford to join a wholesale club by yourself, see if a family member or friend or neighbor will split the fee, then shop together for those bulk items, and split them up if you need to. Paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning supplies, etc are usually pretty good prices so you don’t have to wait for sales at the grocery store.
Turn the thermostat down or up for the season, just a couple of degrees helps some.
Don’t just run out for errands willy nilly. Try to plan your route to make the best use of gas.
Borrow books from the library.
Raise? LOL!
I get every OTHER Sunday off, just like every other farmhand in my county.
And I’d better be spending HALF of that Sunday in Church! ;)
Just how big is the lunch that you pack?
Or are lard stands no longer 5 gallon bucket sized?
Cheap pay-for-what-you-use cell plan like ting or (I think) patriot mobile (I pay $22/month on average)
Used cell phone
Work out and exercise for free (pull up bar, bodyweight exercises, bike, run)
Used books
No amazon account
Used car (two-years old when bought for cash)
Less house than you can afford
Over the years I’ve made a lot of financial mistakes, but I did one thing right. I got out of debt. Completely. Paid off the 2016 Grand Cherokee, kept the 2000 Grand Cherokee, paid off all credit cards, paid off the house. Zero debt—except for the annual extortion property taxes. With the help of a frugal wife we’re able to save almost $1,000 a month out of our meager retirement income. Spending less than you make is a great addition to a debt-free life.
“Hey boss, how about a raise?”
Careful now. Keep acting weird in front of the boss, and you're apt to have to require yourself to submit to a drug test.
No cable, Prime, Hulu, etc.
Ping
Excellent.
Good thread.
I have achieved 8 out of 10. :)
Sell the kids.
“Just how big is the lunch that you pack? Or are lard stands no longer 5 gallon bucket sized?”
There were several sizes as I recall: 50 lb, 8 lb, 4 lb, and 2 lb.
A good size for lunch was something about the size of a small water bucket.
cut the cable tv
big savings
Bkmk
........” the bottom line is not to live beyond your means”......
That is the ‘Gold’ standard.
I recall years ago when I stoppd calling it a ‘budget’ when reality said it was really expenditures.
I’ve been debt free for several years and there’s just nothing better for your mental health that you can get any other way. Life becomes so much better.
Save-a-Lot had chicken wings on sale for $1.19 a pound last week. Their pork, chicken and canned goods beat out Public every which way from Sunday. So once a month I shop there. It saves money.
The other weeks I shop Publix for their wonderful deli sections and upscale foods...
That’s not chicken.
;-)
Does it state the country of origin?
Precious Metals
Canned Food
And a KJV Bible.
Great thread!
Thanks for posting
I was paying a fortune my cable tv, internet and phone “package”. If you drop any part of the package, the price of the other parts, increases. I have a summer home in the mountains. I had the same cable company and price, for my second home. (No discount for same company, two places).
My son found a company where I pay one time for a device that hooks to the internet, for my land line phone number.
Then my son signed me up for “you tube tv” (different from “you tube”). I can use the same account in both houses. I can watch live cable news shows etc. I needed a fire stick for my older tvs, to utilize you tube tv for live shows.
So now I just pay for internet in two places, and one you tube tv account. I have retained my land line phone numbers at no cost per month.
Savings: $160.00/ month in the winter, and$390.00/ month in the summer.
