Telecom giant becomes latest casualty of business bloodbath in Californian city Comes after retail hub last week blamed 'rampant criminal activity' for exodus Businesses have closed stores over safety fears for staff amid spike in crime

T-Mobile has become the latest major retailer to close a flagship store in San Francisco as the city faces a business exodus due to 'rampant criminal activity'.

The decision by the telecoms giant to shutter its premises in Union Square follows similar announcements last week by Saks Off 5th and Nordstrom.

T-Mobile said the closure of its two-level, 17,000-sq-ft building in the heart of San Francisco's was part of its 'nationwide retail strategy to better take care of customers'.

It is the latest in a string of closures to blight the tech haven, which has been ravaged by rising crime and a homelessness epidemic.

Billionaire Elon Musk last week blasted downtown San Francisco as 'post-apocalyptic'.

It comes after luxury department store Nordstrom said it was to close both its units in downtown San Francisco in the coming months, having served the area for 35 years.

Its 40,000-sq-ft Nordstrom Rack store on Market Street is set to shutter on July 1, while one of its flagship units - the 312,000-sq-ft Nordstrom at Westfield San Francisco Centre, will close by the end of August.

Explaining the decision, Chief Stores Officer Jamie Nordstrom said 'the dynamics of the downtown San Francisco market have changed dramatically over the past several years, impacting customer foot traffic to our stores and our ability to operate successfully'.

'A growing number of retailers and businesses are leaving the area due to the unsafe conditions for customers, retailers, and employees, coupled with the fact that these significant issues are preventing an economic recovery of the area,'

Not any old T-Mobile store but a two story mega-store is being abandoned. I’ll bet sales are awful too, another reason to quit San Fran Sicko.

It’s time California seceded from the Union and declared themselves a separate nation!

How far we’ve come... Breathtaking, heartbreaking failure. I remember when “going to The City” was a huge, sophisticated (and fun) deal for us kids from the rural North Coast. No more.

Retailers are fleeing SF in droves, but until the companies in the Financial District start relocating, SF officials will continue pretending all is well.

Choppy headline, but I was able to sew the words together so that logic prevailed.

They couldn’t pay me enough to take a traveling nurse assignment there in the 1990’s, and we’re 30 years on from that. Someone is stuck with some very expensive real estate and hemorrhaging money.

It might be best if the different cultures maintain some amount of geographical separation from each other. This is a move in that direction.

They took out the two big Nordstroms because a lot of those with money have been bailing out of the state...They’re being replaced by low life, illegal’s and thieves, etc..

It’s funny. A lotta queer voters there in SF. Leftists. They take such good care of themselves you’d think they’d want to project it onto the city they’re so proud to call their own.

Then there’s the Chinamen. They don’t vote despite being 30%+ of the population. It may have to do with jury duty being taken from voter rolls. The elected ones are bananas.

2 potential groups that can look around and see what’s going on. Waste of time.
