Woody Harrelson isn’t too concerned about the backlash he received following his “Saturday Night Live” monologue in February, which included criticism of COVID vaccine mandates.
“Well, people told me it was, shall we say, ‘trending.’ No, I don’t look at that s***,” the 61-year-old actor told Esquire during a recent interview when asked about the controversy surrounding his monologue.
“I feel like, ‘I said it on SNL.’ I don’t need to go further with it … other than to say — well, no, I won’t. Never mind. That’s enough. … But it don’t change my life one bit. Not one bit, if the mainstream media wants to have a go at you, right? My life is still wonderful,” Harrelson told the outlet.
The “True Detective” star made jokes during the “SNL” appearance about being a “redneck hippie” who also used marijuana. He concluded the monologue by discussing a movie pitch he allegedly read in 2019.
“So the movie goes like this: The biggest drug cartels in the world get together and buy up all the media and all the politicians and force all the people in the world to stay locked in their homes. And people can only come out if they take the cartel’s drugs and keep taking them over and over,” Harrelson said during the appearance.
“I threw the script away. I mean, who was going to believe that crazy idea? Being forced to do drugs? I do that voluntarily all day,” Harrelson said.
The actor described his political views as libertarian while speaking with Esquire.
“There are things that the liberals do that I think, ‘What f***ing idiots.’ And then there’s also conservative ideology that strikes me as odd. I consider myself, really, an anarchist. … Well, I’m probably more of a libertarian,” he told the outlet.
“I never see government work. It always seems to be working for the people who got you there,” Harrelson said. “It’s businessmen working for bigger businessmen. It’s not businessmen working for their constituents. I think government just usually sucks … am I wrong?”
“Even the social programs, they do it reluctantly, and they’re just always trying to gobble back what they can from the social programs,” he said.
as saying goes, broke clock is right twice a day
Until the movie Midway. The way he played Admiral Nimitz made me want to enlist!
“I threw the script away. I mean, who was going to believe that crazy idea? Being forced to do drugs? I do that voluntarily all day,” Harrelson said.
Crazy Idea? I guess he's being sarcastic?
Replace the word cartels with companies....
“So the movie goes like this: The biggest drug COMPANIES in the world get together and buy up all the media and all the politicians and force all the people in the world to stay locked in their homes. And people can only come out if they take the COMPANIES VACCINES and keep taking them over and over,” Harrelson said during the appearance.
Both barrels. Nice.
Woody has a certain type of money that I am working to have. Starts with the letter ‘F’.
Don’t agree with Woody on a lot of things, but like Russell Brand, I appreciate the “Free Thinkers” in this day and age.
Democrat = Insane
Republican = Sane
Independent = Republican who does not want to admit he is Republican
Libertarian = Independent who smokes dope
He’s all over the place with his confused ideological rhetoric.
What he does sound like is somebody that is scared to say what he thinks because of the ideological warfare that the Hollywood left wages against those that don’t do and say like they do. Fear of the leftist doctrines of the democrats, is a natural state of being for those who work in Hollywood. It’s like walking on eggshells, and wanting to not be noticed, other that when performing.
He seems to be coming more conservative as he gets older. He’s 61..............................
Indeed.
Well, it used to be everyone who was conservative in Hollywood would say they were “libertarian” because that allowed them to still get work if they said that. Of course some of them actually were libertarian too.
Nowadays, the left is so dominant in Hollywood, they want 100% compliance from everyone. So I don’t think saying you are “libertarian” works as a cover much anymore.
He would definitely be an improvement.......................
