In a tweet about the reward, the Texas governor pointed out that the 9-year-old boy, three women and a man shot to death were here illegally.
It was his reference to the victims as “illegal immigrants” that triggered a heated response and over 14,000 comments as of Monday morning, many of them critical of the governor.
“Why is it relevant to call these people illegal immigrants? Why is it relevant to bring up immigration status? What the governor and everybody should be focused on is catching the murderer who committed this heinous act,” Cesar Espinosa, with FIEL, said.
Espinosa said the comments make those who might know the suspect less inclined to come forward out of fear that they could be arrested.

I see similar comments on Nextdoor, Instagram, etc. from folks within a relatively short driving distance of our community.
What used to be solid RED areas, in TX, are being infiltrated with blue state, brain dead lib transplants, illegals, etc., and, shame any mention of FACTUAL info, on forums.
They don’t get that the crimes of third world countries are HERE, due to open borders and lib thinking. Not a good combination, at all.

From what I heard they caught the guy hiding not to far away in a closet with clothes piled over him. He was being helped out plus he was also an ILLEGAL.
We call them that because that is what they are.

State Sen. Charles Schwertner, who represents San Jacinto County, also argued the shooting is “a tragedy that points to the vital need for enhanced border security and strong enforcement of our immigration laws.”
Civil rights groups argued rhetoric linking immigrants with crime is dangerous.
“We see the impacts of this rhetoric with militias, in the militarization of hate groups, and acts of violence like the targeting of Latino people in Walmart when there was a mass shooting [in El Paso] a few years ago,” David Donatti with the American Civil Liberties Union said. “The governor is very deep in his own echo chamber, if you can look at a slain group of family members, who are the victims of tragic gun violence, and his reaction is to label their immigration status. I think that it reflects the way that he perceives human life in this way.”
The San Jacinto County Sheriff said only that the victims’ immigration status is irrelevant to his task of bringing them justice.
“My heart is with this eight-year-old little boy,” Sheriff Greg Capers said. “I don’t care if he was here legally. I don’t care if he was here illegally. He was in my county. Five people died in my county. And that is where my heart is — in my county, protecting my people to the best of our ability.”

“What would Jesus say to the mass shooting victims?” LULAC National President Domingo Garcia asked. “Governor Abbott’s words are unchristian. It is indefensible to any right-hearted Texan to use divisive language to smear innocent victims, including an 8-year-old boy.”
Among those criticizing Abbott was outspoken actor and activist George Takei.
“This is despicable. I would have thought bringing up the immigration status of the innocent victims of this senseless violence would be beneath even you. But I was wrong,” Takei tweeted.

In a statement on Monday, Abbott spokeswoman Renae Eze said that “we’ve since learned that at least one of the victims may have been in the United States legally.”
“We regret if the information was incorrect and detracted from the important goal of finding and arresting the criminal,” Eze said, adding: “Any loss of life is a tragedy, and our hearts go out to the families who have lost a loved one.”
However, Abbott’s tweet referring to the victims as “illegal immigrants” was not deleted.
Ha, says at least one may have been legal.
I read that the victims were being flown back to Honduras to be buried, I suppose at our expense.
“I don’t understand where they are all fitting in. Housing, food, etc. We have citizens in need.”
Perhaps they are thinking under a communist government, we will give half of our houses away
