I guess his friend was faster...
A few years ago, a college kid hiking with friends was killed by a bear - in New Jersey, of all places.
Lol!.....
Saw a big black bear walking through a substation yard in Vernon New Jersey yesterday around lunch. A few years ago a young man was killed by a Black Bear just a couple miles away.
It’s like those movies “The Edge” with Sir Anthony Hopkins and “The Revenant” with Leonardo DiCaprio.
“Lets re-introduce bears and wolves into the countryside!”
Reintroduce them in Central Park and throw in some rattlesnakes while we are at it.
The one where Leo doesn't - I repeat doesn't - get raped by a bear.
“- in New Jersey, of all places”
Northwest New Jersey has more black bears per square mile than many other places in the US. It is estimated that New Jersey has between 3000-5000 black bear. While they have been sighted in all 21 counties, the highest density by far is in Sussex, Warren and western Passaic counties.
Seeing a black bear is almost a daily occurrence in some northwest New Jersey towns. They are not as common a deer but they are not rare or endangered anymore.
“You’re not here for the hunting, are you?”
If he was a runner, he’d probably still be alive...
Maybe that is why I am not seeing as many hikers here in western North Carolina and East Tennessee this year...that film is a damned documentary. Yikes!
Indeed, what could possibly go wrong?
PA Game Commission just had live video of a female bear and her three cubs living under someone’s deck in the Poconos. The bears had chewed about a quarter of the way thru two deck joists. So the bear effectively showed her offspring that a good place to spend the winter is under a deck. Bears here also find crawl spaces to live in, rearranging dryer vents to help warm them. In 1980 PA had about 2,500 black bears. Today is it closer to 20,000.
