Idaho tightens its abortion ban into United States' most draconian by banning minors from traveling out of state to have a termination, with those who help facing up to five years in prison

Legal limits on abortion-related travel are the focus of a new law in Idaho, with Gov. Brad Little signing a bill Wednesday that makes it a crime, punishable with up to five years in prison, for an adult to help a minor get an abortion without parental consent.

In response, two doctors and a regional Planned Parenthood affiliate have filed a lawsuit over the state's newly released interpretation of a separate anti-abortion law because the attorney general says it prohibits physicians from even referring patients to out-of-state abortion providers.

This 'abortion trafficking' law is the first of its kind in the US. It makes it illegal to either obtain abortion pills for a minor or to help them leave the state for an abortion without their parents' knowledge and consent.

Gov. Little said in a letter that the new law does not prohibit adults from traveling across state lines in order to get an abortion but rather seeks to stop minors from traveling for the procedure without their parents or guardian's knowledge.

'We've seen how fast harmful legislation can catch on and spread across the country. Here in Idaho, we're going to do everything in our power to stop it,' said Mistie DelliCarpini-Tolman, the Idaho State Director of Planned Parenthood, in a statement.

Idaho is one of 13 states that already effectively banned abortion in all stages of pregnancy, and is one of a handful of states that already have laws penalizing those who help people of any age obtain abortions.

State leaders in blue states such as Washington, Oregon and California have promoted the West Coast as a safe haven for abortions, and lawmakers in Oregon and Washington are considering bills to shield abortion providers and patients from criminal liability.

Termination? Godless leftists love a good euphemism. It’s murder.

Heaven forbid a child have their parents’ permission before crossing state lines for an unrequired medical procedure. Especially a procedure that will likely require continued medical support and behavioral/pastoral counseling.

There is only one thing wrong with the headline, it should be 10 years in prison.

“The word “draconian” originally comes from the name of Draco, a lawgiver from Ancient Greece, who lived in the 7th century BC. He codified many of the laws which were only transmitted orally before his time.

However, it has since been argued that the association of his name with terrible penalties is somewhat unjust. Many of the laws were only written down, not made by him. Also, he is noted to have introduced the distinction between deliberate and accidental wrongdoing, such as between murder and involuntary homicide. He even abolished some bloodier punishments known from earlier times.”

Yeah, I was irked that Idaho thought they had jurisdiction over what you do outside the state, based on the headline. In reality, it’s to do with minors and parental consent. Perfectly legitimate. Apparently the headline editor thinks parental consent is a quaint irrelevant anachronism.

Yes. I noticed the misleading headline right away. The bill prohibits people who are NOT THE PARENTS of the minors from taking them across state lines.

All this law does is change the roles. One of the major reasons for getting abortion away from the feds is to stop the “control” of the will of the people on a topic. I don’t care which way the state goes as it is their decision, but by threatening punishment to control the act again is just the same as controlling it the way the feds did. It is still illegal to take the action of getting an abortion by proxy taking the decision away from the patient and putting it in the hands of government again. What was improved?

Government needing to stay out of it was the battle at the fed level for years to award people the chance to do it. Now the state is not staying out of it by directly threatening the people that determine they want to have it done. Different role, threat still exists.

Abortion is a state issue. It’s all we could ask for for the last 50 years. Idaho is being stupid. If a woman is entitled to an abortion in one state Idaho has no say. The state where the abortion is legal will have to come to grips with what it’s doing, not Idaho.

Then there’s the viability issue-a fair discussion we can win on. Idaho gives the on-demand leftists more ammo to paint the right as slave owners. They win that way.

Think Dred Scott.

Doesn’t matter what the article says or infers. Idaho(and Linda Graham) is guilty of self destructing our movement.

Then there’s the Goldwater quote: “Moderation in the pursuit of justice....
We lose either way.

So, an adult boyfriend or trafficker can't take the minor female out of state for an abortion without parental consent.

Perfectly reasonable.
