All this law does is change the roles. One of the major reasons for getting abortion away from the feds is to stop the “control” of the will of the people on a topic. I don’t care which way the state goes as it is their decision, but by threatening punishment to control the act again is just the same as controlling it the way the feds did. It is still illegal to take the action of getting an abortion by proxy taking the decision away from the patient and putting it in the hands of government again. What was improved?

Government needing to stay out of it was the battle at the fed level for years to award people the chance to do it. Now the state is not staying out of it by directly threatening the people that determine they want to have it done. Different role, threat still exists.

I disagree. The point of Roe was that abortion is somehow an inalienable right beyond legislative prohibition. Dobbs point (rightly) was that Roe was wrong about that, and that abortion is appropriately a state policy matter.

I agree. My only beef in the aftermath is when states think they have jurisdiction over what takes place outside their borders, which is what the headline disingenuously said.
