A new study has delivered a disturbing finding about everyone’s favourite comfort crutch, the humble drink bottle.
The chokehold so-called “emotional support water bottles” have on society cannot be understated: the trend emerged during lockdown, and has since garnered hundreds of millions of views on TikTok.
“They are objects that can’t betray us,” Australian Catholic University clinical psychologist and hoarding disorder expert, Associate Professor Keong Yap, told The Sydney Morning Herald, comparing the phenomenon with objects children use to soothe anxiety (like stuffed toys). “They are reliable and predictable, unlike people who can hurt us.”

A water bottle is not an emotional support animal. It is not a crutch either. What a dumb article.
NOT if you fill the bottle every third time with vodka and tonic. Just sayin’....
How many of the bacteria arey own from a little backwash? They’re just on some R&R until I bring them back home. How many bacteria are on your fork after your first bite of a meal?
Plastic water bottles are atrocious! An environmental disaster, perfect for leaching crap from the plastic, and typically filled with basic tap water.
Unless you’re religious about washing yer paws before you touch it, its probably not just your bacteria. :-(

When we moved to CA in ‘96, I got a huge kick out of the people carrying water bottles all the time, everywhere. It was weird.
I’m a big fan of Nalgene water bottles. I won’t be giving then up.
My wife washed my coffee cup once and the coffee didn’t taste the same for months.

Got a plastic water bottle with a filter built into it from the local outdoors /hunting - fishing store. Is that ok with the nanny state types
I don’t know, but I like it.
Of course they do. Bacteria can fall off of a toilet seat. A bottle shuts them in.
