Reusable Water Bottles Hold More Bacteria Than Toilet Seat, Study Finds
New York Post ^ | March 13, 2023

A new study has delivered a disturbing finding about everyone’s favourite comfort crutch, the humble drink bottle.

The chokehold so-called “emotional support water bottles” have on society cannot be understated: the trend emerged during lockdown, and has since garnered hundreds of millions of views on TikTok.

“They are objects that can’t betray us,” Australian Catholic University clinical psychologist and hoarding disorder expert, Associate Professor Keong Yap, told The Sydney Morning Herald, comparing the phenomenon with objects children use to soothe anxiety (like stuffed toys). “They are reliable and predictable, unlike people who can hurt us.”

There are also trillions more bacteria IN the human body than on a toilet seat. I guess it matters which bacteria are causing the concern to these scientists.

Back when I was a carpenter, I had a coffee mug that was in my truck for the better part of a year that got daily use, but only cursory rinses a couple times a week. It was well seasoned. Probably kept my immune system well seasoned as well.

So the four years I drank out of a canteen and didn’t die is a miracle?

What I’ve learned from the media:

Big Macs are healthier for you than just about anything else that tastes good.

Cocaine is relatively non-addictive

Toilet seats are just about the cleanest things I own.

(Can we stop with the “more ... tham a Big Mac”/”More addictive than cocaine”/”dirtier than a toilet seat” comparisons?)

Plastic water bottles are one-time use, sanitary and convenient. So naturally the environmentalists had to try to drive them out of existence and force us into far less sanitary practices.

Everyone needs to drink Brawndo. Water is what’s in toilets.

Of course if you’re the only one drinking from it they’re your bacteria and not really a big deal.

Sigh...

Clean a stainless, or non-BPA plastic bottle out once a week, and regularly replace your bottle brushes and you’ll be fine.

First off if wash those bottles with bleach then they will be clean. Second thing is that exposure to bacteria helps the immune system. And we are headed toward 3rd world status.
