With King Charles' Coronation just weeks away, the Palace is scrambling to secure big-name musicians to perform on the big day.
According to reports from The Sun, the royal team is struggling to secure artists for His Majesty’s big Windsor Castle concert on May 6th, after three more acts have reportedly turned down the royal gig.
Elton John, the Spice Girls and Harry Styles had all been invited to perform, but have had to turn down the offer due to conflicting tour schedules.
A source tells The Sun, “Organisers are working against the clock to pull together an exciting line-up but have hit a series of challenges."
“Elton John was top of Charles’ list but due to his European tour, which sees him performing in Germany the Friday before then again soon after the Windsor concert, he isn’t able to make the dash to the UK work."
“Meanwhile, man-of-the-moment Harry Styles is also tied up with touring and unable to get key band members together as they’ll be on much-needed downtime.”
British singer Olly Murs is rumoured to be filling in the performance spot, joining Take That’s Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald who are due to headline the concert, which will also feature Kylie and Dannii Minogue, Andrew Lloyd Webber and US soul great Lionel Richie.
The royal source said, “Olly has such stage presence and a huge fanbase, he’d be a great addition.”
The news comes just weeks after Ed Sheeran, Adele and Robbie Williams also turned down the offer.
Prior to the acts pulling out of the Coronation celebrations, organisers of the event had stated that King Charles was enthusiastic about their appearances, with one source sharing that “the King has suggested a number of people he would like to perform and Adele and Ed were on that list. He was very keen that they were part of the concert."
The same source went on to explain that "there is a team set up to get the talent signed up so they approached the two of them, but got replies saying that they were unavailable, which was a massive disappointment."
"They are titans of the showbiz industry and are quintessentially British but also known across the globe. It's such a shame."
So far their lineup includes:
Bobby McFerrin: “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”
Aqua: “Barbie Girl”
Ylvis: “The Fox” (What does the fox say?)
The Blackeyed Peas: “My Humps”
Pinkfong: “Baby Shark”
Meghan Trainor: “All About That Bass”
I first heard of her when she died.
I had never heard the rehab song until then either, but I really liked it, and her voice.
Of course the whole context kind of spoiled it.
So on the one hand, she’s like everybody else in this coronation saga — unavailable.
OTOH, what pepsi_junkie said — her schedule is wide open.
Maybe they can use the Paddington Bear Jubilee vid with Queen, and the Queen. That was cute. Freddie shouldn’t have a scheduling conflict.
Fun how We Will Rock U is famous for the catchy Morse code for “U”:
dot dot dash, dot dot dash...
It’s always something.
Too bad Dio is no longer with us, they could reunite Rainbow and do this one...

PEAK Rainbow...an outstanding performance...thanks!
Elton John - gay, the Spice Girls - one is gay and Harry Styles - gay gay gay
And of course the choirs of the various cathedrals could get in on it as well.
Why not add class instead and go for classical orchestras?
Scaramella va alla guerra (Scaramella is headed off to the wars with his spear and his shield . . . when he's not off on a spree with one shoe and one boot . . . ).
Our choir actually sings several of Josquin's sacred compositions (as opposed to a frottola like this!)
I bet John Rutter’s Cambridge Singers would jump at the chance! Showcase great English music!
Throw some country artists in there😀
Not sure about that but he worshipped Princess Diana. A bit awkard for Charles, given how that marriage went down and what happened next.
You’re correct.
The odds of Harry, Duke of Sussex, becoming King at this point are remote.
William, Prince of Wales, and his three children are all ahead of Harry in the succession.
Their children - and their descendants as well, for that matter - will all be ahead of him as well.
And the King is not unpopular - most people in the UK and the Commonwealth Realms want him to be King.
Some celebrities not wanting to associate themselves with supporting the monarchy at the moment, when it’s under constant attack from the left as a supposed symbol of colonial oppression... really doesn’t mean all that much in the scheme of things. I don’t blame them - why wade into that woke crapstorm if you don’t have to?
What a beautiful classic way to celebrate.
Love their music, have CDS
Thanks, I was pretty sure I had it right but consulting an expert is never a bad thing.
Unlike many around here I have nothing against England maintaining the monarchy. I see it as something that has evolved over the history of England and works rather well for England. It ain’t broke so it don’t need fixing.
I really think the major problem Charles has is following in the footsteps of his mother, the longest reigning monarch in English history. She was also pretty darn good at the Queen business.
Charles does have some pretty interesting ideas for bringing the crown into the 21st century. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. I think William will have a much easier go of it because of the steps Charles takes now.
As for the celebrities keeping their distance, you’re right, no one willingly walks into a sewer unless they have to. It would be interesting if some high level celebrity told the wokesters to stuff it and performed anyway.
How are things in Oz?
Meanwhile...

NEW: King and Queen Consort to make first State Visit of the new reign 🇫🇷 🇩🇪
They will travel to France (Paris, Bordeaux) and Germany (Berlin, Hamburg) from 26 to 31 March.
Choosing two key European neighbours rather than a Commonwealth/Realm to visit on behalf of UK government.

Still tugging his forelock to the EU...
Gee, I wonder what the British monarchy was up to during the American Civil War...?
The UK supported The South because they needed the cotton for their burgeoning textile industry.
Until they second sourced the Confederate cotton with cotton from India and the South’s biggest ally dropped out........................
