With the J6 footage release, the mainstream media begin to panic

The great thing about their panic attacks is that they become intemperate and begin to tell the truth—which is that they believe only they may control the narrative.

Practically within minutes of January 6, the Democrat establishment, both politicians and the media, had their narrative in place: It was a violent insurrection that justified the biggest FBI manhunt in history, saw Democrats conduct a kangaroo congressional hearing to cement the narrative, deprived hundreds of people of their constitutional rights, and cowed Biden’s opponents into silence lest they too be accused of “insurrection.” For those same two years, the Democrat establishment resisted making public 14,000 hours of video footage showing J6 events in and around the Capitol, claiming that to do so was too dangerous. Now, though, with Kevin McCarthy having made the footage exclusively available to Tucker Carlson, the media are singing a very different tune.

One of the sure things about Democrats is that they firmly believe that, as Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds…. With consistency a great soul simply has nothing to do.” Or, put another way, when you’re a narcissist, the one consistent point when it comes to “truth” and “narrative” is that both must always serve your needs. (I’ve never had a high opinion of Emerson, and I have a very low opinion of Democrats.) Nothing shows that more clearly than the “turn on a dime” response in the media regarding the 14,000 hours of video.

For the past two years, the media have insisted that the 14,000 hours of video footage are irrelevant and that making the footage public would permanently endanger those who work (and posture) in the Capitol. Even more disgracefully, the DOJ has had the same attitude, refusing to make exculpatory footage available

They’re worried this will turn into a huge issue for 2024.

As far as I am concerned the J6 Footage was not released. Tucker and Fox News does not count.

I highly doubt there’s any “panic”. The Dems and media NEVER have to pay for their lies, propaganda and as traitors. Never will

Wasn’t this a Brady violation? Shouldn’t all the convictions and guilty please be overturned if the prosecution had exculpatory evidence?

I watched the massive rally called Jan6 for the entire event via RSBN streaming video. From another source I heard that Antifa was planning to disrupt the rally. I saw a peaceful event mostly by non political Trump voters who knew the election was stolen. I saw the turnout to hear his speech. I saw Capital Police open the double doors and a few people walked inside, but not a very large group. The second camera was on the West side and I saw people breaking windows and trying to get inside. I heard at the same time that a large group was shouting at them and I heard them crying, “Stop them, it’s Antifa!” The patriots tried to pull them down. My question is, “Why has that video never been seen?” I know what I saw and heard.

That torrent does not include video from government cameras installed in and around the Capitol.

Very good point. Thank you!

“But I do have a RWE book on my desk that I’ll occasionally read.”

Quite a thinker and his ability to put his thoughts into words. All of his stuff is on the internet.

Here’s part of an essay:

We grant that human life is mean; but how did we find out that it was mean? What is the ground of this uneasiness of ours; of this old discontent? What is the universal sense of want and ignorance, but the fine innuendo by which the soul makes its enormous claim?

Nice passage.

I also skimmed through a few essays/letters with an eye on what’s not to be appreciated. And I was reminded of a consistent impression RWE has imparted over my last 40+ years of occasional perusals. Perhaps not the best nor fairest term, and certainly contradictory to the substance of his writings — it was a tossup between pensive & melancholy.

“with an eye on what’s not to be appreciated.”

You must tell us: why would you be looking for “what’s not to be appreciated”?

Upthread, I believe you asked about the author’s lack of regard for RWE. So I decided to revisit a few essays to see what could possibly turnoff a given reader. I really didn’t find anything but with the possible exception of fragmented journal entries and the pensive/melancholy traits I mentioned. Personally, I’m a fan of RWE especially in my earlier years.

Haven’t looked at journal entries. Don’t see pensive/melancholy traits but that’s probably just me.
