I think it’s a flare that is occuring at a high enough latitude that we see it’s filaments being drawn into a circular pattern but I doubt it is anything truly meaningful. It is more event of angular optics and vectors. May look spectacular but ultimately will mean nothing.

This is nothing to be alarmed about. The Sun undergoes activity cycles every 11 or so years, from relatively quiet and peaceful, to absolutely rambunctious.

Carrington Event electrocuted telegraph operators and set fires. Gotta wonder what that level of EMP would do today. Imagine everyone's cell phone frying at once. Mayhem due to the reliance on them and/or addiction to them.
