Have You Noticed That Visa Cash Cards That One Could Purchase Have Disapeared? Banks Are Also Discontinuing Them.
Thoughts?
Credit cards are nice because they provide give-backs. Many credit cards give you frequent flyer miles on the airline of your choice. Or discounts at Amazon, Walmart, Starbucks, or the store of your choice. Discover gives you cash back.
“For any emergency it is wise to have a significant amount of cash on hand.”
True, but with a digital currency? Hmmm, actually I suspect that the people who still have cash (from earlier days when cash was legal), may find it to have a LOT of value when the digital system crashes.
My credit card is an excellent way to accumulate flight miles. I’ve not paid for an airline ticket in five years. I took the family to Europe a few years ago with frequent flier miles.
I’m the kind of customer the issuer hates. I rack up to miles but pay off the balance every month so I don’t pay any interest.
Yep
World War III will bring on a Great Reset and Population Reduction.
No gas stove? Too bad about that EMP.
Cook over fire. I expect that to happen.
Pure liberal idiocy on every side

They still sell them at my local grocery chain.

Ditto for us. Pay off the total every month and have never missed a payment. This week we’ve been wondering if they hate us so much they’ve cut us off after 40+ years with the same card. When it’s due to expire, we’ve ALWAYS received the new one during the month prior to expiration month. Ours never showed up. We called them. “It’s in the mail.”
Obviously, it never showed up. They said they’d send another one. IT never showed up. We called again and asked them to overnight it. (They’ve ovenighted in the past a couple times when our number was hacked.) Nope. They can’t do that; it’ll be at least 30 days. The excuse: “Supply chain issues”.
Frustrating since so many auto payments are connected to it.
We called AMAC to get a card from them to use as a backup. Usually, they’re kind and cooperative. This time they were snotty and also used the “supply chain issue” excuse. Four-to-six weeks turnaround.
We asked what the supply chain issues are. Clueless. It seemed that all of them have received talking points and just read the script.
It could cause someone to be paranoid. Not us, but Someone ... ;)
Didn’t know that, but it makes sense.
What a nasty SOB that Soros is. Unbelievable. He makes all the other nihilist amoralists of the last sixty years look like amateurs.
I heard long ago that credit card companies will eventually drop customers who always pay the monthly balance off in full, because the CC companies aren’t making any money in interest from those people. Every year or two, I’ll leave about $100 balance owing, then use the card very little during the following month so that I only pay a few dollars total in interest.
I don’t know if it makes any difference, but they haven’t dropped me yet.
We bought some - they weren’t working to validate in the store.
We bought smaller denominations - one worked for ONE purhase and now it doesn’t work at all. Reminds me I have to call them to get solution!
I've paid in full for three decades. Not dropped yet.
You pay for these up front
Its not like its credit and they wait for you to pay the balance
As I said, I don’t know if the story is true. Your experience makes me less inclined to believe it. It’s at least a few years now since I’ve let any balance ride, and they haven’t dropped me either.
Santander blocked my card under the premise that they thought a $80 (approx.) purchase of bike tires from Texas was suspicious, which is the 3rd time they did it. The second was due to the donation to a Christian ministry. They require me to show up at the bank and show valid ID, which I no longer have (did not renew license in time) and would have to pay about $50 to obtain a certified copy of my birth certificate, go to the registry etc.
But the bank accepts SS retirement, and still lets me transfer funds to PayPal, which provides a Master card debit card which Comcast, Amazon etc, accepts, thank God.
At age 70 I think I may live out my remaining years with no valid ID. Or course, PayPal is sailing to port as well so we will see how far their censorship goes.
See post above.
I know
these can be used in all sorts of places and on line
I gave them as gifts from my bank but none available in this area at bank or in stores.
except that they are becoming rare
Local bank has stopped carrying them. Noticed that they were no longer in the gift card section of the stores.
Did I hear recently that BOA is getting out of CC business?
