I have only bought them once to give to a relative so no, I did not notice.

I have seen gift cards still in stores. What’s the difference?

It long ago occurred to me that they are a way to transfer funds outside IRS control. Same with gift cards, to some extent.

I assume you are talking about pre-paid cards, where you use cash to put a balance on them and then use them as credit cards.

I've never used them. I just use my regular credit cards and pay the bills on time.

Not sure why people would use them unless they bought them as gift cards to give to somebody else. Seems like it would be a pain keeping track of the running balance however.

A Visa cash card can be used anywhere that accepts Visa.

Had no problem buying them last month to inside holiday cards for acquaintances.

Is there a bigger story in development here?

The prepaid cards might have value for online purchasing and travel.

At $5/month they tend to be too expensive for regular use by me.

I use a debit card and wait for my checking account balance to go well below $1000 below buying online.

Target and most grocery stores still sell VISA gift cards. For how long you will still be able to walk in and buy one with a handful of $100 bills and no ID is, however, an open question. They undoubtedly want to track the path of every Federal Reserve Note in circulation.

Just another step towards the end goal

Many will deny it’s happening - until there’s no other option available

Nations are going to shut down alternate forms of payment that cannot be tracked

Many will not believe it

Nothing is going to stop it from coming either

Luke 21:34-36

βœοΈπŸ™πŸ›

Revelation 13:16-18
King James Version

16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

IDK

Democrats don’t need them for illegal campaign finance until the next election?

Soros used them to distribute funds to election-stealers.

In the last two weeks I’ve been in a Kroger and a Food Lion, both still have the cards stocked.

“Nations are going to shut down alternate forms of payment that cannot be tracked. Many will not believe it.”

I read recently that 75% of the ATMs in Australia are gone.

We’ll go all electronic and then piss off Russia (again) or China, and they will go: ZAP with an EMP, and send us back to the pre-Stone Age.

I drew a lucky card in the game of life and will be on grand jury duty for the next month. There is a $50/day payment plus $7 a day for transit expenses. (The courts want us to use metrorail.) The payment mechanism is a Visa cash card, which will be topped off periodically (I think weekly) for days served. If a juror misses a day, he doesn’t get paid for it.

FWIW

It’s been a surprising number of years since I’ve been on a petit jury so I don’t know if the petit jury payment system has moved on from paper checks. But for the grand jury, they’ve got us for a month and the administrative folks now prefer the card.

No, but I have read that woke folks want to have a 666 chip inserted into their hand so they no longer have to carry cash or credit cards.

Phone scammers in Calcutta love gift cards. They probably avoid the prepaid VISA cards as they are too easily tracked.

I have a Visa credit card, never use it, don't even carry it. I pay cash for everything I can. I have a Mastercard cash card that I use to pay to charge my coal burning EV to buy gas.

I have no use for credit cards.

Some people have lousy credit histories. They can't get credit cards, yet many places won't accept cash or checks (e.g. online shopping). So they use cash cards.

“EMP”

For any emergency it is wise to have a significant amount of cash on hand.

I try to keep a varied mix of denominations including ones and fives because you do not want to haggle about getting change.
