In NYS, all beekeepers are now required to register their colonies with the state. This is so all hives can be ‘inspected’ for foulbrood. This is in the absence of any evidence that foulbrood is pandemic in honeybee populations. If foulbrood is suspected, the entire beeyard will be destroyed. Through my employment I have met one of the new inspectors. He has zero beekeeping background.
