I live in an early-60's-build house. For the most part, it's wonderful, but it has very little insulation. I've been meaning to rectify that, but didn't yet.
So, after spending a warm night buried under blankets, I wake up to a shivering-cold set of rooms, all under 60 degrees F.... even though me and the missus set all the baseboard heating to max and left both space heaters going.
So, I decide to go to Walmart. I find two pallets of space heaters, one of them Infra-red, and one of them Oil-radiant. Both are electric.
I go ahead and put one of each in my cart, get a few food items, then decide to pick up one more Infra-red heater.... maybe 5 minutes later.
BOTH PALLETS ARE CLEANED OUT... when I get to the register, everyone had a pair of those heaters in their cart.
I’ve had a little missus for about 6 years now.
(And yes, I’d hit it. I actually HAVE!)
She knows about the “I’d hit it” thing and she knows it’s performance art. She doesn’t mind, in fact, she tells me my bonkers sense of humor is what she loves about me.
We live on Mobile Bay. Had the in-laws over last night to roast chestnuts over an open fire. The fire and the roasting were cool, but the eating part was not. Chestnuts are not good. Anyway, my outside faucet I was going to use to put the fire out was frozen. My in-laws, who moved down here from upstate New York wasted about one millisecond in telling me I should have disconnected the hose and left the faucet drip. I thawed the pipe after they left. Woke up this morning to a phone call from them telling us they had no water because all of their pipes are frozen. I guess I coulda, but I didn’t. Just jumped in a nice hot shower and then made myself a cup of coffee while they are in their front yard with a hair dryer trying to thaw a frozen pipe. Guess I’ll head over in a few to help out...
Yesterday it got colder in my house so I looked at my thermostat
It was no longer on Heat at 73 but Axillary Heat at 69
I yelped EEEEK !!! I thought it was broken
Oh No !!!
I had never seen that before !!!
I think its an automatic back up or something if the cold goes off the grid...
I put it back to Heat at 73 and it has been fine since
SCARY !!!!
Hunkered down in SE TN
Nice and warm here in CA—well, this is pretty much the only reason I live here. The weather. (When it’s not smokey “fire season” but this Fall we did pretty well!)
Stay warm out there everyone!
I want my global warming back!!!

GLOBAL WARMING CHALLENGED!
It’s supposed to be 70 here by Thursday.
“Itโs up to 28 degrees in DFW.”
It’s 28 here in Rockport, we should be 10-20 degrees warmer than DFW. Water for chickens keeps freezing have to dump some in a tray every 2 hours or so.
This ain’t right. Clouds are supposed to have cleared out some time ago but they keep hanging around.
Del: "What's the temperature?
Neal: "There isn't one".
In central Illinois visiting family. Coldest was -8 degrees with wind chill of -31. In a 1950โs farmhouse. The hinges on the door facing the wind had frost on themโฆon the inside of the house!
House stayed warm after we plugged up the drafts which were very evident with the wind howling.
Sister in Tennessee has had 2 power outages so far with the TVA rolling blackouts.
Sorry
Global Warm has been recalled
Disfunction problems

Scientists Say They Caught China Successfully Changing the Weather.
They have been working on this for years.

Laz, I might suggest you wear clothes around the house.
-8f isn’t bad, but the windchill was -32f. 3 flights out cancelled. Maybe Monday.
My ex never did get around to getting her tank filled so she ran out and bought a bunch of space heaters for the 40-50 year old mobile home. She’ll probably have 3 months worth of electric bill increase that would have paid for the propane.
What I want is a mini-split AC system with heat pump and an outdoor wood furnace that also heats water. Of course I want to design and build a passive solar house too. Someday I’ll get there.
And the snow was blowing like kamala.
I went deer hunting. Wind chill around zero. I didnโt see jack except for Jack Frost.
I'm thinking about turning on the air conditioner at 77 degrees!
1. What to you expect me, here at the store, to do about it?
2. We sell pipe insulation, shoulda got some.
3. You need to call a plumber, not some part-time schmuckatelli at Home Depot.
0deg, 7” and my coalstove is cranking... Merry Christmas
