Participants in new research conducted by Royal Holloway and the Warburg Institute, both University of London, were likely to trust artificially generated faces, known as generative adversarial network (GAN) faces, than real ones, making them more susceptible to misinformation and creating a cultural visual landscape towards a more deceptive society.
The study, published in the journal iScience and titled "On the Realness of People Who Do Not Exist: The Social Processing of Artificial Faces," lab-led by Professor Manos Tsakiris from the Department of Psychology at Royal Holloway, and study-led by Dr. Raffaele Tucciarelli at the Warburg Institute, School of Advanced Study, showed participants a series of faces that either belonged to real people or were artificially generated (AI).
Participants were asked to judge whether the faces were real or not and, intriguingly, GAN faces were more likely to be perceived as real over those of actual people.
The findings highlight the recent advances in the technology used to generate artificial images, with an impressive acceleration over the last decade of GAN technology—resulting in faces looking incredibly realistic today.

It’s a Post-Truth society.
“It’s a computer. Computer’s can’t lie.” <== Average 100 IQ person, probably.
This study is done in tne hopes of gove rent taking over what can and can’t be said or printed. The elites want to regulate what is said, which is why we saw althea censoring going on in social media and the news, and all the alarmist news stories about “fake news and the terrible ramifications of it”- they are trying to justify taking control of what people see and hear.
Im should have said “is likely done In The hopes of”, as it follows the pattern of control the left are trying g to develope recently, ie, warning about terrible consequences of fake news.
It’s not,the governments job to censor what they don’t like or approve. It is the people’s responsibility to check things put for themselves. The old saying “buyer beware” still holds-
"About Cal Lightman, the world's leading deception expert who studies facial expressions and involuntary body language to expose the truth behind the lies."
#Cal Lightman world probably slit his wrists today.
Definitely a lie! But also false advertising.
Like buying a Rolex, then finding out it’s a $20 Chinese knockoff.
Well why not? They would be the perfect pictures to accompany bots that post on media and that give shining reviews at Amazon. I’ll bet they’re even used on “dating” (sex-hookup) sites. Same for robots.
To repeat what devane617 said, “what’s real anymore”?
I don’t know. I could be a bot and not know it.
The highest paid hookers always look their best for a reason.
OMW, CDY! That’s so creepy. Looks totally real. Hair’s a little odd, but those eyes look so real.
There are THOUSANDS more inside that website.
Amazing.
Should we trust “fake faces” less than we trust 99% of the media today?
I guess the reason I’m not susceptible is because I have enough sense not to turn it on?
