Sheriff Wayne Ivey said Walsh and his roommate were taking a break from playing online video games with friends when Lawson pointed a gun at him and pulled the trigger.

The sheriff said Lawson “jokingly” aimed the gun at Walsh, thinking it was not loaded.

Lawson called 911 and reported that he had accidentally shot Walsh and was “fully distraught and devastated” when Palm Bay officers arrived, Ivey said.

Officers found Walsh inside the home with a single gunshot wound.

Lawson faces a manslaughter charge. He was being held without bond at the Brevard County Jail.

Doesn’t seem like it was that funny to the dead guy.

Wow. Who jokingly points a firearm at somebody, especially if you are trained in firearms?

How is this different than what Baldwin did?

Good question.

“Typical cop with a sense of entitlement. Laws are for other people, not him.”

I agree. Had this same cop witnessed you “jokingly” aiming a weapon at someone else he very likely would have killed you. At the least he’d have arrested you.

But he thought it was okay for himself to do something blatantly stupid like this.

And I expect he’ll not only get away with it because ‘boys will be boys’ but he’ll also be back on duty before the end of the month...if not sooner.

We had been very curious about this death. The cop who died was being hailed as some kind of devoted-to-the-profession type who came in at age 18 via prior Police Explorer involvement.
Not sure how the media was kept in the dark this long…..
Fumb duckers are everywhere.
Such a shame. And for that particular law enforcement agency what a DISGRACE!!
Failure happened at no fewer than three levels:
Training
Shooter
Deceased
R.I.P.

Follow the Baldwin Rule: The gun is always loaded.

I thought the Baldwin rule is: the gun always fires itself

Rule #1: The gun is always loaded

Rule #2: Do not point the gun at anything you are not prepared to kill.

Rule #3: Keep your finger out of the trigger mechanism until you are ready to fire.

Rule #4: Always be aware of what is behind your target.

Its not difficult.

But that is not how you win video games................

I find your comment detestable.

And others here find it accurate. Are they detestable to you too?

More of those "highly trained professionals" that the media is always hyping. That said, I do know some police and sheriffs here who are everything you would want to see in law enforcement officers.

This guy is not one of them.

Huh?
The guys is being held without bail and charged with manslaughter.
Where’s the entitlement?

Pointing a gun at another human being and pulling the trigger without any justifiable reason to do so.

Baldwin shot someone because of a series of failures by everyone who handled the gun that day. If just one of them had been conscientious enough to check the gun to make sure it was a) unloaded if the scene did not call for firing it or b) properly loaded with blanks if the scene called for firing it. But Baldwin held the ultimate responsibility.

This incident was the fault of one person.
