Just a thought here as I think he was the last effective Speaker from the R party.
Why must everyone be a geriatric?…
He did a good job before, but the GOP dumped him.
he’s out of touch and likely compromised.
No one that would actually be good will get enough votes. I say, give it to the dems.
So he can get rolled again?
.
Old Newt had a contract and nothing beyond, I’m afraid.
He also predicted Republicans would win by Historic margins. Kinda botched that prediction.
.
It could only be for 2 years; he’s got to be better than anyone we’re likely to have now.
Possibly as some sort of advisor to the Speaker, or as the Speaker’s Chief of Staff, because he knows how mechanically to get things done, but not as the Speaker himself.
I agree with the others - he’s definitely too old, and he may also be Deep State compromised.
I don’t know; he’s been out of the swamp for a while, maybe he’s in a better position than a used car salesman from CA?
“No one that would actually be good will get enough votes. I say, give it to the dems.”
Sadly, yes, you just summed up what has become of the political system today.
Maybe so, but I don’t see it happening. It is about the mechanics, and delegation, and being the face of the opposition in government, and I think even at his age, all of this is possible.
Obvious choice. /S
.
If you read his latest (from Hannity’s theatre room must likely) - he fell in the trap of blaming the Conservatives for the Republicans position.
In fact, he called them “the Far Right.”
If you need more than that to decide on Newt, you’re one of Sean Hannity’s sock puppets.
In Sean / Newt’s world, Murkowski and Romney aren’t the problem, it’s “the Far Right.”
Shoot me now.
.
He may be a good compromise candidate among the various factions in the party.
Effective? He supported amnesty several times, and helped pass many disastrous trade deals. Support of China alone should be enough for a good tar and feather. Any more effective and we won’t have America any more. Newt has always been part of the problem, just as most Republicans are.
Did not see/hear/read this; take your word for it.
In a country of 340,000,000 that’s pathetic if true.
Well, let me say this, we are not going to get someone we’ll prefer; the question is, would he be better than McCarthy?
We need new blood in the speaker slot.
