The United States booked their place in the last-16 of the World Cup in Qatar with a nerve-shredding 1-0 victory over Iran on Tuesday.
Gregg Berhalter's side went into the clash knowing a win was the only result to take them through, and Christian Pulisic's first-half goal was enough to seal three points.
The US will take on the Netherlands in the last 16 on Saturday.

Australia rules football..mixture of football and rugby...includes the “behind” maneuver...where the pants of a running opponent with the ball can be tackled from behind by grabbing his pants..
Maybe as the Ausssies. Have gone woke and a memory of the past.

I really don’t understand why people would bother to take the time to make a comment about something they don’t care about when they know they’re just trashing a something others do care about.

As a soccer player in high school (one of the few Americans in my boarding school on the team) it was fun to play. I played football, too. After breaking my collarbone, I was the QB and I weighed about 120 and our rivals' linebackers crushed me, I knew my quickness was better for soccer.
Watching soccer is not as fun as playing it.

“Sanders “
If you are talking about Dion Sanders, I don’t think he gets half the credit he deserves for being one great athlete.

I keep saying that the field is too big. It needs to be reduced to more like a football field. The players wouldn’t get quite as tired and it should pick up the speed of the game and the scoring. You've never played soccer, have you? The tighter the space, the easier to defend. There would be fewer goals not more.
Indoor doesn't count as the walls keep the ball in play no matter what so you get lots of ricochet chances and you don't lose possession out of bounds.

Some people might think professional chess matches can do that too (except maybe for other chess nuts, I suppose).

They only wore those at closed practice sessions. Stunning and brave of them to take such a stand.

The 1980 “Miracle on Ice” is widely acclaimed as the greatest sports performance in U.S. history. That team was DEFINED by its lack of star players. There’s nothing more American than a G.O.A.T. that emerges from obscurity — and then returns there.

I agree to a point. However this is a pretty young team, and none of these players have ever played in a WC before, so to see them get this far is leaving me hopeful, at least for the future.

I think we should insist that it be played on a hockey rink sized pitch. I bet it would speed up a little bit.

Soccer and American football also share one of the dumbest features of any sport — where the clock keeps running even after the whistle blows and play is stopped.
