Covid becomes plague of elderly, reviving debate over ‘acceptable loss’
Washington Post ^ | Ariana Eunjung Cha and Dan Keating

More than 300 people are still dying each day on average from covid-19, most of them 65 or older, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention...roughly two to three times the rate at which people die of the flu...

Today, nearly 9 in 10 covid deaths are in people 65 or older — the highest rate ever, according to a Washington Post analysis of CDC data.

Epidemiologists tend to divide the pandemic into three distinct periods. In the first year, from March 2020 to March 2021, the United States experienced about 500,000 deaths. The toll was about the same the following year. In the third year, the nation is on track to lower that count significantly, to 150,000 to 175,000 deaths — barring a curveball in the form of a new variant.

That means that coronavirus is likely to rank third as a cause of death this year. By comparison, heart disease and cancer kill roughly 600,000 people each year; accidents, 170,000; stroke, 150,000; and Alzheimer’s, 120,000. Flu, in contrast, kills 12,000 to 52,000.

Last month, people 85 and older represented 41.4 percent of deaths, those 75 to 84 were 30 percent of deaths, and those 65 to 74 were 17.5 percent of deaths, according to a Post analysis. All told, the 65-plus age group accounted for nearly 90 percent of covid deaths in the United States despite being only 16 percent of the population.

When hospitals were hit with a crush of patients in the spring of 2020, some of the debates about allocating scarce resources centered on age. In documents drafted by some medical institutions, “stage of life,” a proxy for age, was sometimes recommended to be used as a tiebreaker in decisions about who should get a ventilator or a bed.

Makes sense since the elderly are generally more health compromised than younger people.
How many dying are triple or quadruple vaccinated?

News Flash: People over 65 have a higher rate of dying than younger people. People over 80 have a much higher rate. Covid, or no Covid.

Make your peace with God, then all is well.

I’m 5 years from that and as long as I can get Ivermectin as I can now, not concerned.

Note: You die WITH Covid, not necessarily FROM Covid

“””More than 300 people are still dying each day on average from covid-19, most of them 65 or older,””””

In Florida something like 94% of the people above age 65 have been vaxxed.

I suspect the percent of seniors being vaxxed is about the same across the USA.

So it certainly appears that the Vaxx does not keep people from a covid death or maybe these deaths are actually covid vaxx deaths.

Yes, I’m sure the individual who was in a tragic car accident, taken to the hospital and died, but had COVID, will have COVID as cause of death on the death certificate.

IF TRUE (huge if), I’m shocked we’re not getting the daily death tolls like we did under Trump. /sarc

Old people get sick and die. Flu, pneumonia, COVID. It happens.

Meanwhile, mortality rates for Millenials are up 36% — and they aren’t dying from COVID. You’re looking at suicide, fentanyl, and vaccine for that increase. In other words: the government’s bad policies are killing young people.

Keep those face masks in place, and keep taking those magic vaccines and boosters.

Big Pharma requires your unquestioning cooperation.

Not impressed.

I don't believe anything coming out of CDC these days.

They lie.

It’s nothing new. I remember ITALY making the decision EARLY ON in this just flat out saying, “We plan to Triage.” Triage meant that after all the young victims were tended to all the old people got put on cots in vacant rooms or hallways in their street clothes and left to die. There were pictures. Funeral homes were backed up with occupied caskets.

I am quadruple vaccinated, agn e 82, caught covid 25 days ago, recovered from serious symptoms in 2 short days, resumed gym activity after 12 days. Today have recovered completely, no cough or any other symptoms. But 2 days if covid was pure hell, could not even stand up, coughing nonstop, whole body ached, felt feverish and lost appetite.
When home test said covid positive, I was scared. So good to recover from serious symptoms in 2 short days at home.

Yes. That. I am near the age range yet, but a lifelong (retired) friend of mine is doing very little socially because of restrictions put on by his former nurse wife as her 92 year old mother lives with them. She doesn't want one of them to be the cause of the mother's death.

I have already started telling my (much younger) wife and all who I know to NOT change your lifestyle because of me. If I get flu, Covid, or pneumonia, or just a bad cold, I might die, or not. I expect to be an ongoing burden at some point if I live long enough, but I do not want a centenarian notice in the paper come at the expense of my wife and children having no life themselves. I am under 60 and have lived enough life that if something happened it wouldn't be a tragedy except for the fact that I still have minor children.
