Vanity: Thank you for your service, but....
11/9/2022 | By Laz A. Mataz

Donald Trump is my favorite President, even more so than Ronald Reagan.

However, I think I’m moving on from him.

I like him in the role of a clarion-calling standard bearer, and his presidency was the best I have ever seen.

I don’t like him in terms of his failure to be a team player. I’m not even sure I like him as a kingmaker. Calling out numbers to make him look good, in a severely-disappointing election shows me he doesn’t care about the boots on the ground, but only how he looks.

Reagan faced the same Establishment hate and Media mocking, but he had a great way of playful rebuttal, with a twinkle in his eye and a little smile. America loved that. All the attacks mustered against him, failed, because he was able to gently turn it around on his attacker with a witty quip or a well thought out fact.

Reagan was also the author of the phrase, the 11th commandment, which was “Thou shall not attack a fellow Republican.”

Trump, on the other hand, has a serious ego problem. He cannot resist getting into a public verbal fight with anyone who criticizes him. While this was fresh and new in 2016, and propelled him into the presidency, it doesn’t work in 2022.

Also, the way Trump fights back is not nearly as good as Reagan’s style. Trump hasn’t got the charm of Reagan, and it’s beginning to hurt our side.

It is for these reasons that I must move on from Donald Trump. Sir, thank you for your incredibly wonderful service in 2016 through 2020. You made those years prosperous and sane. But it is time to move on.

I’m likely to get a ton of flak for this post. That’s okay, I can take it.

He did a great service to our country as President. He forged a new political coalition for the Republicans to use. But he is no longer the man to lead it. If he truly cares about the country, and not primarily himself, it is time to step aside and let someone else finish what he started.

Indeed.

And he will be remembered forever for being the person who started the movement.

Just as Reagan is remembered for being the person who started the collapse of the USSR.

Trump’s stock went down a bit yesterday, and DeSantis’ jumped way up.

But if Nevada and Arizona turn out the way we hope, Trump’s cred will bounce back quickly.

Thing is, the base trusts him to do battle with the establishment squishes, plus, he’s still angry about the last election. And he believes in revenge. He’s still the most viable standard bearer for 24, IMHO.

Not with me. I'm not basing my assessment on 'his' political wins or losses.

I'm basing my assessment on the man's fragile ego and his inability to remain silent when he should.

I love President Trump's many courageous and patriotic actions.. I don't love his impertinant and impulsive tongue.

I am looking for the answer to this. Thinking about what Laz and you are saying, the only way would be to sneak somebody in that the Left doesn’t recognize. I cannot see a way to do that. The steal machinery is in place, and it is up to them to use it how they like since we have no counter to it. We have no leader if it is not Trump. If we do get a leader, Kari Lake(!?) or even how about Tulsi Gabbard(!!?) that person would be destroyed. And to become our leader that person would have to start “Lock her (or whomever) up” chants at rallies. Support for Trump or otherwise must be part of a comprehensive strategy which we do not have right now.

That’s a pretty good analysis. Besides, you don’t change horses mid-stream. And if DJT hints at there being “dirt”, …..take it to the bank. Maybe Desantis’ backing O’Dea wasn’t his first misstep.

I don't remember what the thread (or comment) was, but I called him/her/it out on a thread with a VK ping yesterday (I think it was yesterday).

Jefferson Davis’ administration advised him to draw blood, as that was the only way Virginia would join the Confederacy.
