Donald Trump is my favorite President, even more so than Ronald Reagan.
However, I think I’m moving on from him.
I like him in the role of a clarion-calling standard bearer, and his presidency was the best I have ever seen.
I don’t like him in terms of his failure to be a team player. I’m not even sure I like him as a kingmaker. Calling out numbers to make him look good, in a severely-disappointing election shows me he doesn’t care about the boots on the ground, but only how he looks.
Reagan faced the same Establishment hate and Media mocking, but he had a great way of playful rebuttal, with a twinkle in his eye and a little smile. America loved that. All the attacks mustered against him, failed, because he was able to gently turn it around on his attacker with a witty quip or a well thought out fact.
Reagan was also the author of the phrase, the 11th commandment, which was “Thou shall not attack a fellow Republican.”
Trump, on the other hand, has a serious ego problem. He cannot resist getting into a public verbal fight with anyone who criticizes him. While this was fresh and new in 2016, and propelled him into the presidency, it doesn’t work in 2022.
Also, the way Trump fights back is not nearly as good as Reagan’s style. Trump hasn’t got the charm of Reagan, and it’s beginning to hurt our side.
It is for these reasons that I must move on from Donald Trump. Sir, thank you for your incredibly wonderful service in 2016 through 2020. You made those years prosperous and sane. But it is time to move on.
I’m likely to get a ton of flak for this post. That’s okay, I can take it.
I’ve seen that speech and I did notice the same thing.
Reagan used MAGA first.
“Fettermanese”.
You slay me! 😜😹😱👏🏻
Read and analyze later.
THANK GOD he beat Hillary, but beyond that, it's just kinda whatever. I saw some of the bad decisions he made before others here, but I didn't say anything, because I didn't feel like getting piled on.
Now watch. I'm going to be called a 'NeverTrumper' or 'Anti-Trump', or whatever. I don't care.
You’re welcome and I do give Governor DeSantis much much credit. He is a great leader. I am so happy he is out governor for 4 more years!
I agree wholeheartedly!
Listen to his Victorhanson.com podcasts
they have taken the place of rush for me in my listening lineup
He talks about the generals who were perfect for doing the hard work of a tough situation like Patton and others.
He sees Trump as similar. Good for the hard work but rejected for the long run, because the skills and abilities that these guys have for the tough time do not work in the next step.
I liken it to Moses
He had the skills to lead the people through the desert.
But he did not have the abilities to lead them through the battles to obtain the Promised Land, and he was not permitted. His issues did not permit him to do go there.
But he did much!
If the country is lucky, Trump will back off and others will be there.
We have a deep bench.
I see your perspective Laz, and it is very reasonable. If I were being analytic, it wouldn’t make sense to support Trump any more, since he will automatically bring out the crazies to vote against him. At the same time, this man stood up to evil and not only didn’t blink, he fought on and on and on with many of those he trusted stabbing him from behind as he went. He did so much, and received nothing but disdain from so many. He will always have my respect, and my support as long as he asks for it. I will support all great conservative candidates though, my loyalty is to all who fight against evil without compromising their values.
A good, thoughtful post
FLAK, FLAK, FLAK . . .
I wish the phone text messages would go away . . .
He’s in the Philippines, I think.
I know other retirees who think it is Heaven there.
Obviously Trump fired the first shot!! But Desantis forced him to!!
Doesn’t look like it. It looks like you joined in 2020.
I joined waaaay before that. Got anything honest?
Your attempt paint me as a Greta fan is lame, laughable and telling. Got anything honest? Or is honesty beyond you?
Your comprehension skills leave much to be desired. Here is what I said: (I’ll type real slowly here so the point gets across.)
“I realize ‘fun and lighthearted’ is an alien concept to many in the Greta Thunberg/David Hogg generation…”
Nothing about you being a fan, just likening your humorlessness to those two uptight people and many of the Selfie and XBox Generation.
Got anything honest? Or is honesty beyond you?
Got my vote Laz.
I’m trying to help! 😄
"Now watch. I'm going to be called a 'NeverTrumper' or 'Anti-Trump', or whatever. I don't care."
Almost there ;)
No wonder liberals hate it so much..... I ain't going anywhere, keep up the enjoyable posts.
Politics is the art of the possible. It is not possible for Donald Trump to win the Presidency. It is not possible to pursue a national agenda with him as the standard bearer. Period.
He did a great service to our country as President. He forged a new political coalition for the Republicans to use. But he is no longer the man to lead it. If he truly cares about the country, and not primarily himself, it is time to step aside and let someone else finish what he started.
A person who can do that shows the true measure of greatness. Sadly, I don’t think Donald Trump can do that.
