For forgiveness to be complete there must be repentance
There is nothing more joyful than complete forgiveness with repentance.
You may have forgiveness without repentance. You may also have repentance without forgiveness.
It is good to have BOTH with God and I think he likes it that way also.
We like the concept of forgiveness, repentance, not so much.
KC is correct, it redirects the conscience to focus on God the Savior and not toward that which offends.
This is rightfully a repentance of conscience for the forgiver.
BOTH hearts are (should be) changed.
Yet the forgiveness is not the same as the “forgetness”.

It is more difficult within a familial setting but consistent forgiveness for the same offense is being implied.
While the offense reappears, so too should the same gracious forgiveness.
Some other terms we should consider in this offense-forgive-repent cycle are: contrition and regret.
And, know that repentance, in every instance, works both ways because we are all sinners and apt to do the same.

Forgiveness, like Grace is not cheap.
We are told to avoid those who continue to sin and mock your gracious forgiveness, time after time.

Here is a difficulty I see in this line of reasoning.
Repentance is truly a gift of God and lifts the heart.
When we forgive, are we given insight as to the repentance status of the offender?
Can we apply some sort of test that meets a standard?
Yes, God’s righteousness was fully imputed by Christ.
That phrase should be understood in the reality of the eschaton.
No one’s salvation is dependent on OUR forgiveness of them.
Our forgiveness is not perfect, either.
It is rather, a foul, stinking mess of sewage in comparison.

The WHOLE message of the Bible is repent and turn to God. The Prophets preached it, John preached it, Jesus preached it, the Apostles preached it.
I NEVER said it was related to salvation, that is your words. Gods salvation is very much a mystery
MY issue is completeness. It is very worthwhile to reflect on repentance as well as forgiveness.
You cannot fully understand the love mercy and forgiveness until you fully understand what you deserve. I use the word fully, but it is more like glimpses because of our human nature.
I am a man of unclean lips, I come from a people of unclean lips.
We do not live at the verse, but it is good to visit it quite often. Our relationship with God deepens greatly when forgiveness also includes some thinking on repentance.
Not only am I using that word far more often, I hear it from others I never expected to...and its glorious!

I love Naomi Wolf. This seems weird being that she advised demoncrat swamp creatures for decades.
