Mayne I'm making mountain out of mole hills and I just wanted to vent on something here on a simple observation I have made on society today versus what it was say from the 1980's and before. I was born in 1966 so I'm 56 years old. As time goes on, I am having more and more trouble making sense of the way the world is going today and I just scratch my head or just end up giving the old "South Park" 1000 meters stare while staving off a mental "Blue Screen of Death." I was going to type this long ago but listening to music from the 1970's and especially the 1980's (I'm a 1980's guy, often I joke, I'm an overaged 1980's teenager. B-)) and watching the Brady Bunch, it sort of lit a fire under by rump.
I work in the insurance industry for public health plans like Medicaid and Medicare, mainly the former. I go through calls and cases and I mean no ill will to anyone but I made an observation where a lot of families, especially the mothers have a different surname from the kids. This used not to be that way and it seems like this is a huge crack in families and the way of life we used to know and understand. It's getting to the point where I need a playbook to figure out who is who along with a liberal supply of graph paper. It used not to be this way. Again, maybe this is not really major to some but this is just something that drives me bananas when I see it all the time.
I really don't care who marries whom and so forth as long as all sides mutually consent with no duress, just live your own life and don't force it on me or society at large. I just think people will do what they are going to do. Even so, we are losing a lot of our values, values that kept us together fairly well until the huge cracks started in the Clinton Era onward although like many hear, the origins really go much further back than that.
I'm just an average person trying to make it in the world, working for a living, trying to keep my car running and bills paid and surviving.
There are times I felt I was in space for 30 years and came back to a world which I do not like. If I could, I'd stay as long as I can in orbit until my supplies run out, my solar cells start to conk out and batteries croak, then I'd have no choice. I just don't like this "Brave New World."
I apologize for the post, maybe to some, it is not as mportant and just something I needs to get off my chest.
I disagree that everyone should just do what they want as long as they assent. This destroys societies.
Family is a concept and a word with extraordinary meaning and when we destroy it by “any twosome” or “man plus beast” or “your harem” or whatever society is destroyed and people suffer greatly.
Marriage is one man one woman.
I’m with you. Please stop the world, I WANT TO GET OFF this insane ride.
I think most of us can empathize (those not preoccupied with nonsense keywords, at least). No one ever expected the country that won two world wars and put man on the moon would be arguing about men getting pregnant.
Shame on us all, but most especially our so-called “leaders”.
Honestly it’s nice to have these vanities where we just chat.
Thoughts on the day, etc.
Nothing wrong with you.
My hubby is that age and I’m just a tad younger.
Oh, and we’re not the same sex.
I have always felt our country is under assault by traitors who clearly hate it. The power the traitors have has grown exponentially and the last 10 years have been the steep end of the curve, past the “elbow”. The last 2 years fed them their oats and they are running full throttle.
Yes, that all includes normalcy like MARRIED mom and dad, not just the tyranny of vaxes and BLM Brownshirts.
Good point. Obsession with tattoos and piercings. It’s a sign of sickness. I know we have lots of good people who do that, but it has become the norm. Sorry, it is a sign of sickness - at best, rebellion for rebellion’s sake.
Fathers have been cut out of the family.
Trouble is, men and women like it that way.
You are not alone.
I am reminded of the book “Future Shock” and the psychological concept of “too much change in too short a period of time”.
I am able to adapt and absorb to the changes confronting me - but I don’t in any way like them. I no longer recognize my country. Many (if not most) of the people around me look like they are walking around in a daze (or heavily medicated). The old civilized norms of cordial conduct are dead and gone. You can still say “hello” to your neighbor but chances are he or she will call the cops on you for it.
I thank God my parents aren’t having to cope with this crap.

I was around in 1955 and things were far different than you think they were.
It was SOooooo much better than you can even imagine. So much freedom and safety. Sure there were problems but nothing compared to today. Gas was 20 cents for 100 octane, quarters and dimes were silver, paper dollars were redeemable in silver, most places didn’t have sales tax, Moms were home while Dad worked and kids were free to roam as long as they were home for dinner and came when Mom called. The good list just goes on and on.
We’re not in Kansas anymore.
The decline has been increasing in speed, even during the Trump years. There are a few solutions, but we’re still too comfortable to try them.
It’s in the Bible, towards the back, starts with an “R”
Funny you mention Clinton.
I got a government job in 96. I was born in 76. I had a great paycheck.
I saw his face on the wall everyday and that whole office was full of people who despised him.
They taught me the way that government is actually run. It was here that they pointed me to freerepublic.com.
What you found disdain in, I would like to point out is what created me. When you look around at the guff and misery of this world just know that without that people like me wouldn’t exist.
People aren’t going to “wake up” if everything is honkydory. Like the saying goes, “no one turns to Jesus on prom night”
The only thing I didn’t like about the 80s was the extreme rise in divorce. Many, many of the families on my street got divorced around the same time, including my parents. It destroyed our family forever and has severely impacted my own children. It has affected generations. There’s a reason God hates divorce.
Of course that’s true. How refreshing to hear it!
The only thing we have full control of is how we react to the world around us.
Our outlook is ours alone. We own it.
Rickey Medlocke. Saw them a few years ago in Charlotte. Still a great show.
In “Reflections on the Revoution in France”, Edmund Burke resurrects the Roman word and legal concept of “prescription” to explain what went wrong. In this context “prescription” means the process by which cultural norms and practices are developed over long periods of time, “before they were written”, i.e. codified in Law. Burke recognized that slow, gradual evolution of social norms releases pent up frustrations; thus avoiding explosive revolutions.
In Revolutionary France, society went from aons of being stifled, to a free for all of radical change. Surprise! Too much too fast destroys the foundations of society, nrmal human relations, and the common morality that keeps people from becoming beasts.
The contemporary “Left” has forced change down the public throat that relatively few people want or even understand. Society is visibly breaking down; corruption is rampant; and , lunatics are running the asylum. Those who sense we are losing our country feel so BECAUSE WE ARE. The Leftists are not interested in tolerance. Their program is that YOU have to kowtow to their insane agenda, even though mature adults know it will lead to disaster. Most of us have things to lose, and are not willing to risk our lives and liberty in the death struggle required to fight back. So we tell ourselves that we should give one more election a chance, etc. Pressure is building and Thermadore awaits.
‘Not Sure’ really had it Bad
But
Ended up being President!
