In “Reflections on the Revoution in France”, Edmund Burke resurrects the Roman word and legal concept of “prescription” to explain what went wrong. In this context “prescription” means the process by which cultural norms and practices are developed over long periods of time, “before they were written”, i.e. codified in Law. Burke recognized that slow, gradual evolution of social norms releases pent up frustrations; thus avoiding explosive revolutions.
In Revolutionary France, society went from aons of being stifled, to a free for all of radical change. Surprise! Too much too fast destroys the foundations of society, nrmal human relations, and the common morality that keeps people from becoming beasts.
The contemporary “Left” has forced change down the public throat that relatively few people want or even understand. Society is visibly breaking down; corruption is rampant; and , lunatics are running the asylum. Those who sense we are losing our country feel so BECAUSE WE ARE. The Leftists are not interested in tolerance. Their program is that YOU have to kowtow to their insane agenda, even though mature adults know it will lead to disaster. Most of us have things to lose, and are not willing to risk our lives and liberty in the death struggle required to fight back. So we tell ourselves that we should give one more election a chance, etc. Pressure is building and Thermadore awaits.
Edmund Burke, he hit the nail on the head.
