Non-woke Movies

I apologize for the Vanity upfront. That said, can we come up with a list of movies that don't lecture about climate, race, abortion 'rights', sexuality, intolerance, 'migrants' etc.? I fully realize there are lots of crucial issues facing all of us and that this is not that important, but when occasionally looking for at least an hour or two of escape it would be nice to not have to be assaulted by the left's agenda.

very good movie; some overacting, especially from Lee J. Cobb, but then his character is innately irascible and bitter...Jack Warden steals the show, IMO...

All hockey players love that cheesy movie!

I love the scene where they are warming up, skating in circles and the two guys just eyeball each other...then, the next time they pass, all hell breaks loose!

TWELVE ANGRY MEN

I just saw it. Powerful. And impressive that it's maintained mostly through just one scene.

But contrary to the takeaway apparently intended by the film producers, mine was: one communist greatly outnumbered in a group can manipulate the others and basically take over lolz

Nebraska (2013)

Indy. Bruce Dern.

“An aging, booze-addled father makes the trip from Montana to Nebraska with his estranged son in order to claim a million-dollar Mega Sweepstakes Marketing prize.”

The story was great, but the acting, except for the overacting by Cobb (which I think was purposeful to show how much pent-up anger he was carrying), was the part I love the most.

Especially considering 99% of the movie is just one room.

Heh, I know...there are people who sniff and raise their nose at the low-brow focus of the movie...”Oh, why do they focus on fighting? It is so unsportsmanlike...”

Which makes me love the movie so much more...:)

Thanks for the recommendation. I’ve added it to my watchlist. Letterboxd is great for this. There are probably other apps for this, but Letterboxd works for me. At first glance, I note that it is well reviewed, including some outstanding reviews from a couple of the people I respect. I’ll be watching it soon.

the overacting by Cobb

It was the amount of acting necessary to depict what was essentially an early caricature of a "deplorable", in accord with other films and literature of the era serving to undermine faith in the justice system, marginalize conservatives as angry, irrational, bigoted, etc. etc., and raise public outcry against capital punishment, even though we have voir dire to cull acceptable jurors.

It’s a good one. Very different vibe compared to Lucas’s big hit films. Darker and slower paced in a good way. After I watched it the question on my mind was why doesn’t this film get talked about more...
