Non-woke Movies

Posted on 10/16/2022 7:20:13 PM PDT by neverevergiveup

I apologize for the Vanity upfront. That said, can we come up with a list of movies that don't lecture about climate, race, abortion 'rights', sexuality, intolerance, 'migrants' etc.? I fully realize there are lots of crucial issues facing all of us and that this is not that important, but when occasionally looking for at least an hour or two of escape it would be nice to not have to be assaulted by the left's agenda.

I have read reviews that The Hallelujah Trail (1965) is politically incorrect, but I cannot see how that is as all participating subgroups portrayed seemed equally satirized. I don't see any woke in Anatomy of a Murder (1959).

I actually loved “The Hunt”. I won’t spoil it for anyone, but see it, it’s not what you think. It’s an action/dark comedy.

President George H. W. Bush nominated Thomas to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in 1990. He served in that role for 19 months before filling Marshall's seat on the Supreme Court.

Thomas's confirmation hearings were bitter and intensely fought, centering on an accusation that he had sexually harassed Anita Hill, a subordinate at the Department of Education and the EEOC. Hill alleged that Thomas made multiple sexual and romantic overtures to her despite her repeatedly telling him to stop.

The hearings were chaired by Senator Joe Biden...who displayed his penchant for self aggrandizement and unintelligible verbal word salad.

I especially like the 1925 version of The Wizard of Oz, which featured Oliver Hardy before he teamed up with Stan Laurel. The 1939 version is also pretty good.

I’ll add “Animal House” and “Young Frankenstein” to this group of movies that could never be made now. Sold my DVD collection a couple years ago, but made sure that I kept my old copies of these three, as I know that any re-release of any of them will be hacked to pieces so as not “to offend” anyone.

Come to think of it, a lot of Mel Brooks’ movies fit this category fairly well.

One of my favorite movies of all time is San Francisco, which is both a disaster film and a musical, which generated the hit song Would You?.

Another favorite of mine is Big Jim McClain in which John Wayne plays an agent for the House Committee on Un-American Activities who chases Red spies through Hawaii. How politically incorrect can you get? Glorifying McCarthyism and HUAC as they harass Progressives!

It would be nice indeed to not have leftist messages shoved ham fisted in your face for every movie.

Try going through Critical Drinker's movie reviews on youtube: A few movies in the past year or so fit this. Top Gun, Joker, Northman, Everywhere All the time all at once, Prey (on Hulu), Peacemaker and Jack Reacher series, Spider man from last December with all 3 Spiderman, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, etc.

Otherwise, its "the message" being shoved in your face and poor, poor writing. The writing today is just bad.

They did have heart attacks. Somehow, liberals came away with the message that is was pro Orange Man. What? Huh? How crazy does one have to be to see Orange Man in everything? The movie was well done, relied on great script and acting, no CGI tricks. It deals with mental illness, abandonment, isolation, and whole host of other themes. But somehow, its about a troubled white man that actually seems sympathetic at times? And that is why movie critics suck today. One has to look at Rotten Tomatoes and read the audience reviews to actually find out if it is good or not.
