Afghanistan, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria, Yemen, and Haiti are labeled “hotspots of highest concern,” facing catastrophic hunger levels.

Gee, what do all of these countries have in common...

Any word on the price of Tofurkey? We've decided to pardon the turkey this year. [Just kidding.]

Well...if it costs a little more, I’ve still got that 16 cents I saved on my 4th of July meal last year. Thanks, Branfon!

For Carol Ehrman, cooking is a joyful experience. “I love to cook, it’s my favorite thing to do,” she said. She especially likes to cook Indian and Thai food, but stocking the spices and ingredients she needs for those dishes is no longer feasible. “When every ingredient has gone up, that adds up on the total bill,” she said. “What used to cost us $250 to $300 … is now $400.” Ehrman, 60, and her husband, 65, rely on his social security income, and the increase was stretching their budget. “We just couldn’t do that.”

$400 for two people!?!?

18 months ago, a case of Yuengling at Publix in FL (12 oz. cans in a suitcase package) could be had for $21.99 (put on sale for $19.99). Now the price is $27.99 w/ a sale price of $23.99.

I don't blame the Yuengling family or their employees. I blame the democrat party.

Been stocking up on butter and freezing it for a while, now. Bought a turkey ‘loin’ which is basically a rolled breast, and that’s in the freezer for T-Day if I need it. (Still deciding ‘who’ is doing ‘which’ holidays with the family this season.)

Eggs haven’t been a problem as of late, and the price has come down a bit, which was a pleasant surprise. :)

FWIW, eggs can be frozen, and when thawed you can use them as you would any recipes that call for ‘liquid’ eggs. Also, they make good scrambled and quiche, but you can’t have them Sunny Side Up after being frozen which stinks because I loves me some runny egg yolk with toast points! ;)

I guess if that’s all I’ll have to worry about in Brandon’s coming, ‘Nuclear Winter,’ I’ll be just fine. *SMIRK*

There is only a handful of grocery store chains in the US, maybe they should enact their very own “Credit Score” like the gubmint wants for the rest of us. Between Cameras and good facial recognition software and Debit/Credit card records they should LIMIT All Public Employee’s and their families to no more than $100 per week in the purchase of groceries Nationwide. Since the vast majority of public employees are Obese, it will be good for them and us citizens will have plenty of food to feed our families.

Last year’s 400th Thanksgiving was up in price by about 14% compared to 2019. The way the story reads the 401st one will not be celebrated by the Third World because it is now way to expensive.

Since when did the Third World start celebrating this holiday?

I just came back from the Walmart Superstore. No turkeys.

They had one 9 pound Butterball turkey breast for $20. That was it.

When I was a young boy about 8 or 9 in the 1950s my family didn’t have much money. Dad was a WWII veteran still in active military and overseas for most of his career because of his MOS so my mom, sister and I had to eek by.

Anyway, at the time, mom asked me what I wanted for Thanksgiving (because we really couldn’t afford all the fixings of that traditional meal) so I told her I wanted only TWO Swanson Turkey TV dinners (the ones in the aluminum trays) and that’d be it. Thanksgiving day, that’s what I got and felt happy.

Only, it seems now that here I am decades later at 73 and am back to the same options minus the aluminum trays. :0)

Funny, that.
