Two people were shot outside the Long Island home of GOP gubernatorial candidate Rep. Lee Zeldin on Sunday while his teenage twin daughters were at home, he confirmed to The Post.

“My daughters Mikayla and Arianna were doing homework on the first floor,” said Zeldin, who was not home at the time. “They heard the shots. Boom! They went upstairs and locked themselves in the bathroom.

“They’re freaked out,” the congressman said.

The Suffolk County pol, who is running on a tough-on-crime platform, said the two people who were shot were taken to Long Island Community Hospital.

“I don’t know who was shot,” Zeldin said, adding that he is still awaiting details.

He said his front porch, where he was interviewed by The Post on Saturday, “is now part of the crime scene.

“The local police have cordoned off the area,” he said.

Zeldin’s twins, 16, called 911 from the home around 2:20 p.m., police said.

All the more reason to get the constabulary to push them out to AOC country.

You're pretending when crime gets close to the well connected, celebrities, politicians etc, there is not a lot of attention, coverage, or sudden new concern about crime.

That would never happen, right slick?

Too unsettling. I grew up in Stony Brook and it was as safe and idyllic as I can ever imagine a town being. Kids walked and rode bikes everywhere and went to the beach all day together in the summer, we always felt completely safe, it was like Mayberry but with water and a university. We also hung out in Port Jefferson and Setauket and it just felt like you were at home wherever we went. Really a perfect childhood! Haven’t been back in over 20 years and in my mind it’s still wonderful, makes me sad to hear that the reality is much different. I guess the old adage “You can’t go home again” is sadly true.

Held at gun point is not the same as hearing gun shots.
Disturbed for a week I can see. Traumatized for life is a bit overboard.

Just spent some couple of years there. SB. It’s idyllic. As she we grew up, 15 miles west, north of 25A is out of the alligator pit. For now. Let’s see if we can’t drag the low energy Zeldin across the finish line kicking and screaming

Abraham Lincoln was a great President. He had really excellent advice for people like you. Do yourself a huge favor read it and live it.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.

I watched a TV newscast at lunch and they interviewed Kathy Hochul about the shooting in the front porch of Representative Lee Zeldin. Hochul said ‘luckily no one was injured’ and then went on an anti-gun rant.

What? what about the two 17 year old boys that were hit from the drive by shooting? (a third kid managed to run away). The two kids were sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Are those kids invisible? they don’t count? In the newscast they were talking about how crime was spreading from the ‘inner city’ to the suburbs... So none of the people that get killed in the ‘inner city’ matter?

This is bad, no wonder other cities like Chicago have thousands of deaths a year, the inner city citizens don’t matter, and are not even worth mentioning.
