I’m about to leave my hotel that doesn’t have any power and go see if water got into my home or if there is any structural damage. It’s going to be a long day/week.

I lived on the coast in St. Pete for 40 years - just left a year ago. It’s agony leaving your home due to a hurricane and not knowing what you’ll find when you return. Just be safe. Property can be replaced, people can’t.
I don’t miss the constant storm threats every summer although, I do miss so much of Florida.

Bartow boy here, now in Ocala. It’s really sad what St Pete has become. As an outsider, when did the crime get really bad there? I can remember going to Mad beach in the 80s as a teen by myself with no worries, now, not so much, and I carry.
It’s a hurricane.
They happen every year.
They have their own season.
Don’t go sailing.
Pretty much every channel did... It’s a news event.

Mad beach started changing for the worse by 2015, if not a little before. Took our kids there every year during the summer starting in the early 90’s, so the cousins could all hang out together safely while we parents could have fun visiting with our siblings and soaking up rays. It was a great time. That has really changed with “progress”. It’s not the same place anymore.
