Even with no NG being pumped in by Russia, a significant amount would still remain in the pipeline. A rough back of the envelope yields a pipeline volume of 31,582,807 ft3. A 20-lb propane tank is about 2 ft3.

I wonder if there are manual valves every so often so that they can isolate sections of the pipeline and protect the rest of it.
Like we do with switches and circuit breakers on the power system.
I have an aunt in Naples, who I will be picking up on Monday and bringing back to broward, because she cannot stay at her condo across from the beach.
As such, I’ll be going there, from broward with supplies on Monday for others. If your loved ones need help contact me in PM and I’ll bring them what you want/need to give them, or believe you think they need. I’m not planning to get into ft Meyers, because search/rescue ops ongoing.

Overland mainline NatGas pipe has MLVs that can blow-out an entire region.
They are about 90 miles apart.
In the event of a rupture, these are what are activated.
Smaller in-line valves \can\ be used but they release slowly, they are typically used as local control.

Takes 4 to manually close a valve on 1000 psi in a 36-inch line.
Not familiar with Nord-line size.

Thanks for your gas pipeline knowledge.
The only thing I learned about automatic gas valves, I learned when I bumped my gas meter with my lawn tractor and broke it loose. There was a big “whoosh”, and then nothing. I did take a wrench and close the valve to the underground line, but later learned that when the line was broken, the pressure dropped and an automatic shutoff valve closed to shut my line off at the street.
Note to whomever is running the White House an we know it’s not the Resident: moving the deck chairs on the Titanic will not prevent you from sinking!
