1.5 hours southwest of Anchorage is a town accessed only through a tunnel under a glacier or by sea. A place where almost all of the residents live in one self-contained building with a school, store, church, USPS, and everything it takes to live under one roof. Join me as we meet some of the interesting people who live there.

I know this is very politicaly incorrect, but are Eskimos going to move to Samoa?
Well won’t they be surprised by ‘climate change’...

I’ve seen the video and it’s interesting.
I wonder how long it would take before somebody realized they were all dead?
I just watched this video Thursday and it was very interesting and I enjoyed it.
There must be oodles of beautiful single women
Cruise ships stop by frequently - during the season. In winter, hmmmm . . who knows?
Just wow.
all related somehow
I was actually watching this video an hour ago..
A town? Isn’t it more of an HOA?
Whittier, Alaska - big whoop. But it was near the epicenter of the 9.x quake in 1964. Take the car train through the rail tunnel off the main Anchorage highway.
That’s funny. I expected 30-40 smelly people living in an expanded yert...with the animals. This is a full-fledged town with bars, museums, city govt building. Would love to visit.
Just for fun, I searched Zillow for any property available there, sales or rentals...zip, zero, nada. There was one sold last year... a 1400sf condo in maybe another local building. Sales are probably thru word-of-mouth, though.
Very interesting video. Thanks!
Did the woman say $450 a month HOA dues? And they were looking to raise it?
Would love to visit.
I saw the video yesterday.
I’ve driven through Whittier about ten years ago and saw the building. There isn’t anything to see in Whittier. But the railroad tunnel is fun to drive through.
My condo’s monthly HOA is over $1,000.
Quite familiar with the little ‘city’ living in an old WWII building.
Locally called ‘Whitidots’ - drug use rampart, if you drive there, be careful.
The other big building in Whittier - the infamous Buckner building.

Very enjoyable - thanks for posting. Would someone please explain what was so special about the bathroom that was shown - Hawaiian motif? I didn’t get it and it went by so fast - something hanging from the ceiling?
I found a property listing in the Hodge building on the market at $95,000. HOA dues at $515...but that include a lot:
“Spacious, 3 bedroom/1 bath condominium with mountain/glacier views. Original windows have been replaced. HOA fees include electricity, heat, water, trash, snow removal, yard and common area maintenance. Close to fabulous boating, fishing and sightseeing locations on beautiful Prince William Sound. Seller is a real estate licensee.”
Your $1000 is typical of beach condo property here in NC. That would scare me a little...but also depends on what is included. Lots of upkeep on beach property.
