New York City considers legal action against Texas over migrant buses

NEW YORK - New York City is eyeing legal action to stop Texas Gov. Greg Abbott from sending more buses full of asylum seekers to the city, Mayor Eric Adams said Sunday.

As at least six more buses from Texas arrived in the city Sunday morning, Adams also floated the idea of using cruise ships to house migrants who have been entering city homeless shelters by the thousands.

“Our legal team is looking at legal challenges we could do with Texas,” Adams said in an appearance on CBS 2. “We believe there are some options we have, because when you involuntarily place someone on a bus, we believe that actually skates the law … We’re not leaving any stones unturned to make sure that New Yorkers are [not] being treated in an unfair way.”

At least 11,000 migrants have entered the city’s homeless shelters since May, including 2,500 who arrived on buses chartered by Abbott - leading Adams to declare the shelters at their “breaking point.”

The city has opened 23 emergency shelters and expects to open 38 more, the mayor said.

City Hall is now looking at the possibility of bringing in cruise ships as temporary housing, something Adams said the administration of former Mayor Mike Bloomberg considered to address a surge in homelessness, but never followed through on.

“We’re looking at that as a temporary measure, not a permanent measure. A permanent measure is get people into housing,” he said in the CBS interview. “We have to find temporary measures to address this issue.”

In a series of TV appearances Sunday, Adams pleaded with Abbott for at least a heads up about buses being sent to the city but said he has been rebuffed.

NY may have to redefine 'sanctuary city' first. In the meantime, send plenty more.

But they said they were a sanctuary city, they pledged not to report illegals to ICE. Nobody forced them to go, they want to go where they never have to worry about being deported.

I think Abbott should make an offer to Adams. Stop calling New York a “sanctuary city” and the buses will stop coming.

What’s your cause of action, dork? Not to say they can’t get a friendly federal judge to make up law and give them a temporary restraining order, but there is no actually cognizable claim here

Very doubtful that any court, in any state, would take up that kind of case, especially when it’s the blue-states/blue-cities that invited the illegal immigrants to come via their naming their areas as sanctuaries.

The “legal action” needs to be against Washington, Eric. They’re the ones behind this mess to begin with.

You thought it was great until the problem started encroaching on your own turf, didn’t you? 😏

Not sure what legal action they can take. Seems like they are angry about Brown people coming to NYC? Are they racists?

Bill them for the wear and tear on the busses, as well as for the fuel.
(Include the cost of the return trip for the next load, as well.)

Rinse and Repeat.

Governor Abbott should send an “I feel your pain” letter to the mayor, and then invite the governor to send the NY National Guard to Texas to help the Texas National Guard in sealing the border.

If that offer is declined, Abbott should request the assistance of the NY National Guard in sending the illegals to Boston, Chicago and Philadelphia.

They have to make money somehow. They have like $100billion with a B deficit and Texas budget largely balanced

The Difference?

NY has state tax and out of control property taxes

Texas has no state income tax and rising property taxes b/c of all the blue staters coming in and putting down huge amounts of Monopoly money raising real estate on-paper value
