How Can Teachers Expect to Regain Support from Parents?

The politicization of the education system has destroyed parent-teacher relations. Can the situation be fixed?

The politicization of the education system has destroyed parent-teacher relations. Instead of encouraging healthy communication among parents, teachers, and administrators, public school officials have continued undermining parental rights and implementing their own political ideologies into coursework. Teachers unions work to vilify concerned parents and label them as "extremists" for showing up and trying to be involved in their children's educational process.

Sixty-eight percent of parents surveyed by The Learning Heroes expressed concerns about politicians making curriculum decisions. Eighty-two percent of parents recently admitted in a Harris Poll that they are willing to change their political affiliation over educational policies. Trust in the public education system has dropped to a second all-time low, and conservative and moderate teachers recognize this. They are leaving left-leaning in favor of private schools, microschools, and homeschooling options.

I have been homeschooling my children for over 10 years now. My family was forced out of the public education system when the district that served us lost its accreditation. I also work as an English teacher at our local co-op.

I do not have an education degree, but I have worked in professional writing for over a decade. My lengthy experience working with various genres has offered just as much credibility as any teaching certificate. Instead of learning from someone who has only been trained to teach, my students are gaining insider knowledge from someone who writes for a living. In exchange, I am rejuvenated with hope for the future as I teach creative writing to upper elementary students and also high school journalism.

I hope that citizens running for school board seats can turn this marxist crap around.

They never will, not this current era of parents.

Government schools are just a bad idea. Inherently flawed because the State has control and the parents don’t. Government schools should be illegal.

There's an error in that sentence.

Actually, the politicization of the education system has destroyed the education system...and that has destroyed parent-teacher relations.

Note here when one says the system has become politicized, that is not quite accurate. The system has become overrun not just by politics in general, but by a certain kind of politics...Marxism and its new step-child, Wokeness. It is doubtful that the education system, in its current state, can be fumigated in a way that removes the political infestation.

So that means a restart.

Teachers who can prove they are not political might have a future. Others...NO.

Work hard and long to regain it maybe? Maybe teach and not indoctrinate? Do that and check back in twenty years.

you basically need a brand new generation of teachers to replace the current ones

there’s no way to ever forgive someone who tried to chemically castrate your kid, turn them into a circus freak, and train them to be Communist revolutionaries... the betrayal could hardly be more complete, the breach more irremediable

What’s at stake here? The souls of our children. This is not some peripheral issue. This is the hill we die on. Letting these impressionable children be sent to communist indoctrination camps is simply unthinkable for any parent who understands this. One should add, that private schools, for the most part so-called Catholic schools are just as infected with the toxins.

This philosophy was recently described by former high school English teacher Summer Boismier. She opposed her Oklahoma City school policy, which restricts politically divisive materials from being discussed into the classroom. Instead of contacting her union representative or local lawmakers, or appealing to parents, she took it upon herself to give students access to books that are not allowed in school.

Instead of organizing an independent student book club ─ with the approval of parents ─ she decided that what she wanted for these children was what mattered. It wasn’t a matter of responsibility to the community, or her class; it was a selfish matter of getting her way. She decided that her beliefs were more important than state guidelines, which were passed by government officials who were elected by the people to represent the people.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

When you’ve got ‘teachers’ like this, changing the school board isn’t going to fix the problem. Eventually, she’ll get fired, but not before damage is done.

When teachers have been ‘educated’ and raised through the same rotten system you now do not want your children to be in, the only solution I see is to get the kids out.

I don’t believe teachers even care about regaining respect from the parents. We need to dissolve the teachers unions, and then get rid of the vast majority of these teachers.

This piece is a waste of time and energy.

Government-run schools have no place in a free nation.

Public education is always going to be a big, juicy target for marxists and every other group of bad actors coming down the pipe.

The basic transaction of public school is that parents get someone else to watch their kids, and public schools get to turn the kids into whatever they want.

“Education” is the marketing brochure, and has nothing to do with the real aims of public schooling. It can happen if the parents are involved and the kids motivated, but it is entirely optional and most parents and kids opt out.

The primary output is ignorant people indoctrinated with whatever groupthink is popular. One hundred years ago, public schools indoctrinated racism. Fifty years ago they indoctrinated atheism and humanism. Today they indoctrinate marxism and technocracy.

Everyone raises the specter of illiterate people running about without public schools. This ignores the masses of illiterate people being turned out by public schools.

Think teacher, not teachers.

A conscientious individual teacher actively not adhering to the progressive agenda will have no problem with respect from parents

I don’t think the propagandists and activists care, and they far outnumber actual teachers.
