EV runs out of juice, pushed by coal miners
DC tourist ran out of battery in the middle of a remote West Virginia road on Friday, near a coal mine on Mettiki Coal access road U.S. 48, a few miles outside of Davis, according to WTRF.

Randy Smith on Friday Some days are just better than others. Today at our mine off Corridor H an electric car from DC ran out of battery at the road entrance to the mine. Someone called one of our foreman and told him a car was broke down in the middle of our haul road. He went to investigate and found out they had indeed ran out of juice coming from DC to Davis for a get away weekend. It’s winter, officially, of course, and the wind chill is at 22°. I’ll never be warm again, I don’t think.
Yep, I just checked. The wind chill is at 9° at the moment and will be a lot uglier before the night is over with.

Yes, we are now at 20° and the “feels like” is 4° with the howling wind.
I was out this morning getting errands done as the norther was blowing in. I loaded groceries in the car in high winds as the temperature was approaching the freezing mark.
I got everything done so I don’t have to go out again until I leave town on Saturday. 🥶

It’s 9° this morning, with a wind chill of -15°. Hurricane is a balmy 40°+!
I didn’t get the last two Nativities put together, but maybe I’ll get them done today. I haven’t even heard the trains this morning, so I don’t know what’s up with that.
I watched a good series originally on Masterpiece, but now on BritBox, called “Scene of Execution” or something like that. I’ll have to check it for sure. It was a stunning piece of work with a shocker ending. Typical British murder mystery, and better than most, with a very good cast.

It seems the furnace hasn’t quit for more than five minutes since yesterday morning, when the temperature outside started to drop. *face palm* Oh, my utility bill!!

Lisa just called to say that the power is out at their house, so Frank isn’t going over to butcher chickens today. They have a couple of options for places to go if it doesn’t come back on. We might get their son for a while.

The temp has dropped in the last few minutes, so it’s now 2°. I’m NOT going outside! Well, not for several hours, when I have to mail a letter to my friend Charlie, a thing I’ve done every Friday since December of 2018, when I moved out of NV.

I got a text last night about “if you power goes out let us know and we’ll come and get you.” That’s nice.
They’re going to have a Christmas party for Sam tomorrow he’s going to have Christmas Day with his dad’s side of the family and because James and Abbie are visiting her mother in Utah, and the three of us will celebrate after church on Sunday. And then again when James and Abbie get back. Three Christmas celebrations for one family. Wow. Overkill.

It is nice that they would come get you rather than let you freeze in the dark. “The least they can do,” as we say around here.
Good luck on all the Christmas stuff. Anyone who wants to come over here on Saturday evening or Sunday is welcome, but we don’t try to work around anyone’s travel or other plans. You either turn up or don’t. If you don’t, you’ll get your present at some point.
Well, that would be my choice, for sure.
Come on Christmas Day or Eve or whenever the "party/dinner/present-opening" is scheduled or don't. Whenever you show up, you'll get your gift, but I'm celebrating on Christmas Day (Eve.)

So, our daughter got hit while merging onto the highway from a rest stop. The car that hit her was changing lanes from the left and didn’t realize there was a merge there. He drove away, but her front axle was ruined. So I just got back from about 11 hours going to get her. But we’re all safe and sound. We’ll figure out getting her car fixed soon.
No Wordle yet. I’m back at work.
