EV runs out of juice, pushed by coal miners

DC tourist ran out of battery in the middle of a remote West Virginia road on Friday, near a coal mine on Mettiki Coal access road U.S. 48, a few miles outside of Davis, according to WTRF.

From FaceBook:

Randy Smith on Friday Some days are just better than others. Today at our mine off Corridor H an electric car from DC ran out of battery at the road entrance to the mine. Someone called one of our foreman and told him a car was broke down in the middle of our haul road. He went to investigate and found out they had indeed ran out of juice coming from DC to Davis for a get away weekend. He then went back to the mine and got guys to push the car to the guard shack so they could plug in to charge. ... See more

What regal kitteh!

Good morning. I hope you slept well.

Mona paid a visit yesterday afternoon. The poor girl is a mess. She related a problem she was having with her brother, and I told her I would never again allow anyone to have so much power over me that they could push my buttons. I’ve come to the conclusion that she’s one of those people who loves having Pity Parties.

After 45 minutes, I loaned her a book and sent her on her way.

FS never did show up, so I thanked him for being such a hard worker (he was out of town again) and told him he could bring it on Thursday when he came to pick me up.

Happy Twe’s Day, Folks!

I wasn’t sure how this one was going to turn out, but I figured I wouldn’t be able to have two Doubles in a row, and that it would probably be back to the Foursie again.

Lucky me!!

"The last two years we were here the complex put up these little orange plastic stakes to help guide the snow removal team as to where the pavement is. Last year most of those were run over at some point and useless. So yesterday they are more sturdy wooden stakes. We’ll see if they hold up better. One has already been run down."

Now that there are cars on the road that are smarter than the people inside them, I have a suggestion: Equip the snowplows with a version of augmented reality that allows the operator to "see" what the underlying pavement should look like.

The information will be months out of date, if it exists at all, but the technology is right there for the tasking, just as GPS positioning is available for farmers when they do their "plowing".

I use a version of this when I park my vehicle for a lengthy time in an open parking lot. I look to see where the shade will be when I anticipate returning, and try to maneuver the vehicle to be a more comfortable temperature on my return, but technology can be your friend, sometimes.

If you’re quoting Poe, did he misspell “sacrifice”?

I could suggest that, but I live in NYS and in a pretty liberal city.

I don’t think they’ll want to divert the money from Drag Queen Story Hour to improving the way the roads are plowed.

Also, when DSNY decided to start tracking the trucks, they found a lot of GPS devices in the river. They had to harden the place in the trucks where they installed the GPS devices so the union drivers couldn’t get at them.

Welcome ... to the liberal world.

I don’t know about quoting authors anyway.

Mark Twain said “God made man because He was disappointed in the monkey.” But I don’t put much truck in it.

BTW: Nice to see you. Drop by more often if life will allow.

I usually only quote myself. I said: "To make us in His image, He had to give us hands."

This would probably work best for commercial parking lot snow removal, not roads and highways.

There are three entities involved; the parking lot owners, the snow plow operators (under contract, presumably), and the computer technicians who could whip up the technology.

Then it becomes a commercial product all around, and no need for intrusive government camel-nosing. (Which won't keep them out, of course.)

And once this becomes a million-dollar enterprise, someone can send me a paltry pittance occasionally for having come up with the idea.

If I happen to pass by Poe’s grave-site up in Baltimore, I’ll try to reassure him that his reputation in orthographical excellence is secure.

Thanks!

Good job, though!

Some days are definitely tougher than others and some are just average in intensity. I hate the days where I’m all over the board and still can win it in six. Though since I’ve added a new supplement, my brain seems to function better, so lets hope it carries through the next relapse, whenever that will be. ;o]

Congratulations on all your Wordle efforts. When I was getting my coat on the way out of the physical therapist’s office yesterday, there was a lady doing it on her phone while waiting for her appointment.

It’s probably not the same one, unless she has paid for it. It’s very popular, and I probably wouldn’t play it but I’m a word junkie. I like crossword puzzles and cryptograms, so this just falls right into place.
