The Vikings were the second wave, you should read about the Migration Period after the fall of Rome and tribes like the Vandals, Goths, Ostrogoths, Angels, Saxons, Lombards, and the Franks. It will blow your mind.
Stark’s book mentions the Vikings occupation of Normandy. IIRC, France ceded the land to them with the understanding that they would stop pillaging and plundering their country. There was probably more to their agreement but that was the gist of it.

I liked it, may watch it again, not that bad of a movie. Kinda fits with this thread.
And just look at their descendants now. Bringing in, and paying for, their own rapists and captors.
Ever wonder why Scandinavian women are so beautiful? When they went a viking, the female slaves they brought back ... were not the ugly ones!
As for Ireland? Dublin & east Ireland was more Scandahoovian than all of north central US for quite a few years!
