I see what you did there. Cue up “Everybody wants to Rule the World” and start the credits.
I’d be far more interested in seeing films made from unproduced John Hughes scripts (Oil and Vinegar, Bartholomew vs. Neff), although today’s Hollywood would no doubt screw them up in ungodly ways.
I should have read ahead...
You probably couldn’t make those movies today. Certainly not how John Hughes wrote them anyway.
They’d be “PC’d” and ruined.
Imagine “Sixteen Candles” being made today? It would be beyond an abortion.
But go ahead and boo me because I say Jeff Jones always performed far better than the material. His turn in "Howard the Duck" truly elevated that film when all the money thrown into it couldn't. Maybe Lucas learned something there.
Yup, Ferris & Fletch. RIP, Flash.
I believe I posted his obit here.
Your headline doesn't deserve any more attention than anybody else's. Caps lock OFF please.
Some ideas
“Young Simon and Simon”, adventures of the brothers in High School, one is dealing weed while the other is being abused by the Principal (Victoria Principal in her return to television).
“Lenny” starring Michael McKean, now in a nursing home and under the delusion that he’s allergic to water, Lenny struggles to come to grips with the deaths of Laverne and Squiggy while he resists being bathed.
“Mama Gump” Forrest Gump’s mom (Aubrey Plaza) is tarting it up all around town, which of the 10 guys she’s dating ends up planting the bun the oven? Is it the nuclear physicist played by Tom Hanks? Or maybe the black one “Corn-Pop” (Ice-T)? A comedy/mystery series.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Mama’s Family”: That POS makes me want to re-fight the Civil War with atomic weapons. I’d rather watch cats f**k than that garbage.
Love it! “Lenny” is allergic to both electricity and water. What’s next? Wind?
“Young Simon & Simon”: Gotta make one of them queer.
Could replace Victoria Principal with George Takei.
“Oh my…….”
Well, here is a scene from “The Verdict” with Paul Newman:
Lawyer Frank Galvin lost his expert doctor witness in a negligence civil suit vs. a hospital and two well-known doctors.
He searches for a replacement, and is shocked when an old black man gets off the bus.
As the doctor is on the stand awaiting questions, Jack Warden, Paul Newman’s partner says. “Well, we got the witch doctor.” Newman is depressed. Warden say, “Look at it this way. It’s always refreshing when you have a doctor on the stand and he’s not a Jew.”
Great movie, LS!
I like both Newman and Warden.
Broderick doesn't have to do paycheck movies any longer, now that his wife is imploding Sex And The City What A Pity Part 22.
Ruck has Succession (never watched it, never will), and has aged dramatically.
Jeffrey Jones hasn't worked since Deadwood 3 years ago and has issues, to say the least.
Sheen, issues.
Jennifer Grey, issues.
Mia Sara, she's a writer and still got the looks. If you want a reboot, make it about her and have those two boobs vie for her affection like they did in the original.
This might even surpass “Geico Neanderthals, The Novelization” in terms of modern cultural achievement.
Yes, Paul Newman deserved the Oscar for this one.
100%. He was very good in “The Color of Money”, but that was a makeup for not winning for “The Verdict”.
Like Pacino winning for “Scent of a Woman”. He was very good in that, but that wasn’t his best work.
Yeah. I guess I can agree with Gregory Peck over Peter O’Toole (”To Kill a Mockingbird” vs. “Lawrence of Arabia”). But denying Newman in “Verdict” was a crime in itself.
Agreed. Tough call, but yes.
Another one was Jon Voight over Robert De Niro back in 1978. Personalities and political leanings aside, De Niro should have won Best Actor that year. Of course he won in 1980 for “Raging Bull”, which was well deserved.
