Hello... I think I’m only here for a few days. I’m waiting for a cat scan on my wrist which is this afternoon. Apparently my surgery has failed. 😨
I’m not sure what has happened. I can’t get the x-ray disc they gave me to load onto any of my computers.
So they screwed a plate on the volar or inner part of my radius. After surgery, all the screws were straight into my radius.
The pain has really been unrelenting. I’ve done everything they asked or asked me not to do. Did that make sense? Like don’t lift anything heavier than a cup of coffee. I mean, I can barely open a door or turn the car on.
I also broke a piece of the ulna which really is the most painful right now.
So, yesterday’s x-rays showed that the screws are no longer pointing straight but pointing up into my hand. And a piece of the radius on the dorsal side has collapsed.
The PA (I never get to see the surgeon) asked me if I had fallen. I said no, then said, “Look at this logically. If I had fallen, AGAIN, hard enough to bend the screws, I would have been in a ton of pain, gone to the ER and called you.”
Then I thought of cheap Chinese screws 😂. The PA also said sometimes this just happens. And I kind of looked at her. 👀
So, a couple of thoughts. I’m pretty sure this will all have to be re-done. Yesterday I was a mess. My BP was 190/85. I got it down to about 148, but I think the pain is contributing. And anxiety over surgery again.
Then I wondered if the surgeon screwed up. Perhaps they didn’t realize, notice, see how bad the bone was broken? It is possible to screw the screws in too tight, thus causing a bit of contortion, causing the piece of bone to slip?
Are my bones that bad?? I mean, they were minimal osteopenia 3 yrs ago. I doubt they’ve gotten to the point where I’m turning to dust.
Adding to all this, our oldest son, 3 weeks ago, fell off a 6’ scaffolding onto his back, thus fracturing 2 vertebrae. He’s doing pretty well. He’s in less pain than I am! But he tires easily.
Anyway.. not sure what lies ahead. I have another appt with the PA/surgeon on Thur. I’ll be able to keep up for a few days though.

Oh Petey, so sorry to read of this trouble. My goodness.
Prayers up for you.
My heart aches for you.
Petey, so sorry to hear of your troubles. And son’s fall.
Prayers for your healing, pain reduction, and a good fix on this.
Yikes! Bless your heart. I will add you to my (long and longer) prayer list. :^)
A second opinion might be in line if you have doubts about the osteo surgeon. How do your bones usually heal? Have you had dental implants and, if so, did the bone surround the implant? ...that sort of thing.
If there is some doubt about bone growth vitamin K2 has a reputation for encouraging bone growth. I have taken it after two spinal fusions - given my age. Of course I can't say if it helped - it didn't hinder. 😊 Some also say it helps defend against CoViD.
Awwww, PeteyPupp- sorry to hear that. They’ll get it right, but I hope that they don’t have to completely redo everything.
Ironically, I was going to ask how your wrist/arm was doing yesterday evening, but didn’t get around to it.
So sorry you’re having to go through this. Prayers up for you.
Oh, petey, I am so sorry. This should not be happening.
Maybe you need a second opinion from a different surgeon.
Prayers for you and your son.
Pupperdoo, you brave girl, you are really being put to the test. Can you demand a second opinion...or at least to see a real surgeon?!
This is Obamacare madness...
That’s a nightmare ((((Hugs))))
Prayers sent, Petey!
Prayers for a speedy recovery for you and your son! I’ve always enjoyed your insights and humor!
Petey I am dead serious. I would go to a new surgeon. My sister died a year ago after a third surgery on her right upper arm. She went through small plates and then a bigger one, then the last one to remove the plates to put in a rod. When I last talked with her a month before her last surgery, I urged her to go to a new surgeon and she just said he was the only one around. If they f’ed up they will be the last ones to catch it or admit it or fix it right.
So sorry Petey. I pray you get some relief soon.
Vitamin K2 and Vitamin D3, calcium and some boron probably good things to take. A second opinion would probably be good but you will probably need to go to a 2nd health system and get Insurance approval! Pain in the butt! ) (Email Conservative Mind for links to some of his past postings that might be relevant?)
hard painful times for you, Petey..
good luck in reducing the pain and fixing the breaks!
Eat ice cream for the bones (isn’t that great advice?)
Ouchhhhhh
Hang in there... prayers for you and son.
Praying for you.
Prayers up.
