OK, so I woke up this morning with a thought. It may not be worth anything.
People here are understandable frustrated with the fundraising and lack of donations to the site. We also do not want to clutter the site with ads and become beholden to outside interests. We want to remain as independent and self-reliant as possible.
Why not merchandize the FR name? Sell coffee cups, water bottles, t-shirts, etc with the FR URL and logo? I'm a woodturner and can make pens with logos/messages on them (though I *am* employed full time and would not have the time to make hundreds or thousands). I would even suggest selling e-mail addresses ( user@freerepublic.com ) for a nominal fee. The selling point would be a guarantee to not create, collect, or produce logs of any activity for this domain. This may take some up-front expenses to set up though.
Not only would this raise money, it would get the site out into the public eye more often.
I'm not saying this will replace freepathons, but perhaps it can mitigate the length and lower the monetary requirements needed for each one.

Yes, the person you copied is directly responsible for the withdrawal of m financial support which was substantial. I do not need to pay to be called numerous names including murderer by someone who has not evidence of reason and throws her complete support and adoration to venerating knowing fraudsters like Kirsch, tenpenny, and the real doctors who either have been arrested or thrown off staff for misrepresenting their credential. She and her acolytes have threatened to dox me, find me, harass me, and destroy me. I have the freepmails they had not problem sending and putting in writing their threats to stifle discussion and the open and critical exchange of information
I find it abhorrent that one perpetually places scripture in the tagline than openly says the things she does. Others may judge her on her own merits. My understanding of the faith is obviously a little different. I am sure I will be censored for saying this, but that is ok.

Yes, I can and have posted articles but there are always a few extremely negative folks who enjoy just being ugly. Who needs that? That is why I lurk instead of post for the most part. I will commit to trying to overlook the negativity and post more articles and comments because I truly do love Free Republic!
Does it really happen that often? It is true that as threads fall down the page, some might not see the first post of an article. It could also be the same subject from a different source. Or perhaps search didn't find the original post. There could be lots of reasons for it. My posts to you were not meant to offend. Just an observation only. We should all try to be kind and stop the snarky remarks.

Too much “drive by posting” here. Commenting without thinking. Some of that is ok, but way too much of it.
IT has changed much. We lost a lot of knowledge and thinkers.
But,
Don’t give up, pass on tradition by telling stories and experience, post and be able to defend quality posting. Encourage those that that are on target and correct those that are not.
Most here don’t even have a clue about what conservatism is. And many don’t want to know, they just want to say something.
I read and respond here to help clarify my thoughts on conservatism. Writing things down helps organize thoughts and position.
This is the place to exercise reading and thinking skills but there is much improvement needed.

Anyone who works with databases knows what that means above, but I’ll explain for the non-geeks among us.
That is a simply data base query that look for the same URL a user submits as a post in the last 7 days. If no result is returned, the post is not a duplicate (or at least not the same urk/link). If a result is returned, the user can simply told: “A previous article with that url has been submitted within the last 7 days. click here {returned freeper_url}.
Of course, this database query can be modified/flavored to taste, but with all due respect to the moderators, this would be a bit less snarky than allowing a thread to begin, only to be taken down shortly thereafter with the notice “search works.”?
Think of it this way: It’ll save time for the moderator(s).
