Most estimates have relied heavily on information gleaned from Icelandic sagas, but since these were only written down centuries after the fact and talk about things like glittery one-footed assassins, researchers have wisely taken them with a grain of salt.
But the new study, published today in the journal Nature, has pinpointed the Viking presence in North America to an exact year: 1021
I call it the Communist era. The first place I ever saw such a designation was in a Communist publication.
My apologies. I noticed that when I read it later.
This might explain why/how some of us have African DNA identified down to 1%. My African DNA is 3 to 6%.
Yet, I/we have many standard Genealogy paper documentations with so called Native Americans, usually a member of one of the civilized tribes with zero/no Indian DNA.
These ancestors often had documented births, weddings, birth of children, even military service and death certificates again without any documented Native American DNA.
Below is one of many of my possible Native American ancestors, my 6th Great Grandmother: Yet, I supposedly have no American Indian DNA in my total DNA package.
Ani GaTage Wi ‘Woman of Deer Clan’ Cherokee Cherokee Woman
1690–1730
BIRTH 1690 • Cherokee, Washington County, Tennessee, Colonial United States of America
DEATH 1730 • Cherokee (Washington County), Washington County, Tenn, Colonial Americaessee, USA
She is listed as my 6th great-grandmother but there is supposedly no DNA to prove it.
I have over 50 supposedly Native Americans like Ani GaTage Wi ‘Woman of Deer Clan’ Cherokee Cherokee Woman with standard genealogy records and yet no DNA to back up that documentation.
Bingo.
ARSH
>> 50k-300k stretch
Quite the isolated genealogy that may still exist on the US Reservations.
I just want to know, when the Vikings played Green Bay 1000 years ago, who won? :-)
When do the Vikings get their first casino?
The first time I ever say those acronyms, probably the ‘80s, I thought they meant Christian Era and Before Christian Era.
I didn’t know otherwise until I joined FR and saw people complaining about it.
“saw” not “say”
Happy Leif Erikson Day....Hinga Dinga Durgen!
Those were my people - we were here first - send reparations
“The author is an idiot. Native Americans of both North and South America have been there for at least 40,000 years, if not nearly 100,000 years.”
You mean immigrants from Asia.
Thanks for that!!
Yes it is!
Once you've been a Freeper for 10-years, you have earned a PhD in sensing the correct view of things...
Reading and article beyond the title becomes unnecessary to ferreting out the truth of any situation...
At 20-years, you do not have to even read the title...
In fact, you have the answers to most of the day's posts before you even fire up the computer and log in...
who won? the redskins, eventually, of course.
True, dat. After all, It's tradition.
The dating of the tree rings and linking them to the solar storm visible in the “old world” is interesting.
The same thing was done by geologists in Washington state. There were dead, submerged forests (stumps now) that had slid into the ocean due to landslides. When they did the tree ring studies they discovered that all of the landslides (all along the coast) happened the same year, so they figured it must have been a huge earthquake.
They looked at the historical records of Japan for tsunamis, and ended up with the exact day, and an estimated hour that the quake happened. (Jan. 1, 1700 or something like that)
This was “only” back in the 1980’s or so that they discovered it, and hence the recent preparations now in getting ready for “the big one” with marking tsunami routes, designs of new buildings, etc.
Oh, and in looking back now at the Indian stories they were able to piece together that some of the stories were about the earthquake and tsunami and wiping out Indian villages, etc.
